Really looks like a true evolution of the original Z art-style which is great!
Just an FYI, this one is actually written by Toriyama. He didn't write any of the original Broly movies. He did watch them before writing this though.
oh my god this looks amazing!
I'm pretty sure Toriyama wasn't even aware of Broly's popularity until just recently. In fact, I'm pretty sure he actually forgot he designed him.
He out right admitted he forgot he designed Broly and the others. He has also admitted he doesn't keep any notes. He completely forgot Super Sayian 3 existed when he was writing Battle of the Gods (or was it Resurrection F?), he thought SS3 was the second form.
I hope it's a lot better than whatever Super is. Perhaps Goku will actually have a brain cell
Really digging that Z-inspired art style!
Goku has always been an idiot.
True, but there's a huge gap between Super and the others. Goku's idiocy stemmed from him being sheltered during his infancy, but as an adult he became somewhat tolerable In Super though, he's insufferable. They couldn't have taken this trait any further
Apparently that is what he was like in the original Japanese DBZ. I've never watched it with subs, so I wouldn't know, and I don't know how close Kai Dub was to the Japanese.
The new style looks super good!
the art and animation looks incredible but i still find it hilarious that broly's back
WE CANNON NOW SON
If this is a movie, what makes this any more canon than the last one?
its the continuation of Super, Basically how battle of the gods turned into season one and Return of F became season 2. Also Why would they be rebooting Brolly if this wasn't the case?
Both Battle of Gods and Resurrection of F were considered canon, though they did remake them in the Super anime with little additions that are inconsequential.
But they cut Vageta's bingo dance
I really don't have a better explanation I just really want this, let me have it.
He's always been that way. The "dropped on his head" thing is very real as far as the manga and original translations are concerned.
Frankly I wish they'd refurbish the Universe 6, Future Trunks, and ToP arcs into movies. I think they all had fun ideas, but the limits of weekly sweatshop animation made them horrifyingly slow paced slop. Not to mention they did a pointless hack job of converting movies into such an awful format. Honestly I doubt Toei has or will anything from Super, but I hope they could for the future series and per slim chance One Piece.
I liked to see Manga accurate versions of those arcs.
The movies look vastly superior to me. I understand that it's a lot less work compared to a series as long as Super, but the execution of the same scenes is Super is inferior imo
So I guess the other movies aren't canon, but this is? As long as Broly is still the equivalent of a train vs a toddler, I'm interested. Although I'd like to have the movies be canon and have him return as a mysterious fighter, jacked up to infinity and beyond due to getting blasted into the sun and having survived, somehow.
No DBZ movie is canon AFAIK, not just the Broly ones.
The countless movies prior to Battle of the Gods (and technically that one special OVA that introduced Vegeta's brother Tarble) all had continuity issues and so forth, and the general rule was basically, "If it wasn't in the manga, it wasn't canon." This led to shit like Bardock being debated for years because Toriyama liked the Episode of Bardock set up enough to include him in a single panel in the manga, but that doesn't have shit on people debating the canonicity of GT for ages. Then Battle of the Gods happened with literal funding from the government of Japan, followed by Resurrection of F, and suddenly Super not only redid both of them (at a million times the lower budget), but suddenly this anime was canon and the Super manga is not only not canon, but reinterprets the same events very differently. Toriyama is just a supervisor and occasional designer at this point, pitching general ideas that Toei Animation and Toyotaru or whatever his name was interpret their own ways between the anime and the manga, respectively. Basically, watch all those old movies as you please, all of them besides Episode of Bardock and the History of Trunks special (and not the Bardock special that has him go Super Saiyan) were never canon. Broly's now being fully canonized and rebooted from the ground up.
I think my only real gripe with this version will be the fact that a super sayain blue is going to be no match for what is basically the legendary super sayain form. It made more sense in the original version of the movie because the only form that was available at the time was the normal super sayain transformation so Broly had a huge advantage. Hopefully something in the story will clear up this power gap in a logical way because it even bothered me in the tournament of power when Goku couldn't do anything to kale in her form as well. I think what I'm looking for is just some sort of explanation that doesn't sound like an "ass pull."
At least the trailer seems to be hinting at the idea that Broly is retardedly overpowered in his base form as is, and is only growing more and more in strength and skill the more he fights our currently-overpowered-by-past-series-standards heroes. Saiyans have always had a retarded amount of growth from threatening battles, it's why Goku and Vegeta "break their limits" repeatedly in the Tournament of Power and it was even a plot point back on Namek, but Broly has always been depicted as a fast, volatile and destructive stone wall that never really needed to get stronger. Incidentally, power creep from Super Saiyan 2 and later stuff snuck up on him in the shitty sequel movies.
the real deal here is having Goku, Vegeta and Freezer tag team agaisnt Broly, now that freezer is somewhat on the good side of things.
I figured they would make a canon Broly arc/film at somepoint after they introduced Kale, since she's pretty much a rule 63 version of him.
