I'm not a fan of gambling at all but ngl I'd like to see some of these machines in person at least once. They're so much crazier looking than US casinos
i didn't try pachinko when i was in tokyo, but i can see the appeal of it. some of the anime-themed machines looked pretty cool instead i wasted my money on crane games and rhythm games. prolly spent around 50 bux on crane games in akihabara and i only won 1 thing :v
When I was in Japan a few months ago, me and my girlfriend thought we'd check this out and see what was up with it. We went into an Arcade, that had about 9 aisles of games, each aisle had about 30 seats a side. There were a bunch of differently licensed Pachinko machines (mine had a little boy/girl/xirl with a big Disc and weird hair!). There were about a dozen or so OAP's there, with full Ash-trays stacked 5-high infront of them, and baskets of ball-bearings on the floor next to them. One guy had six boxes stacked ontop of oneanother and had three towers of ash trays going. It was pretty goddamn pathetic tbh.
Flipperless pinball with the momentary thrills of big payouts. Just keep hitting that lever until you get that high and forget about the thousands of yen you spent to get it. It's like that experiment with rats where they have a button that stimulates the pleasure centres of your brain and the rats spammed that button to dead, only it's based on pure chance whether the button works or not.
I wasn't able to try any of the pachinko machines during my visitation as well, but they do look really mesmerizing and neat, and can see the appeal as they said, on the thrill of it in general, which is why gacha is such a popular market there too. Gambling doesn't appeal to me but that place where it's more like an arcade where you use the balls as tickets for prizes looks more appealing and fun, I'd love to go there whenever I have a chance to visit again. Also Natsuki is so adorable
I went to Las Vegas and I was beyond disappointed in everything. There is absolutely no variety whatsoever, it's basically a thousand variations of "hey hit this button and maybe you won't lose your money", no fun to be had whatsoever.
