IDF soldier killed by fire on Gaza border, sparking wide Palestinian snipers shot and killed an IDF soldier on the Gaza border on Friday, the army said late Friday night, revealing details on the deadly incident that apparently sparked the night’s widespread Israeli strikes on Hamas targets across Gaza. “Today, an IDF combat soldier was killed during operational activity near the southern Gaza Strip. During the incident, a terrorist squad shot at IDF troops and the IDF soldier was severely injured. He later succumbed to his wounds,” the army said. “At this time our aircraft are carrying out widespread attacks against terror targets belonging to Hamas in the Gaza Strip,” the IDF said, adding that this came after the “serious shooting incident against our forces,” referring to sniper fire at IDF troops during a riot on the border earlier in the day. The army said 25 targets were hit, including the “Hamas brigade headquarters in Zeitoun.” The army said the headquarters were completely destroyed along with “weapons and ammunition stores, training grounds, observation posts, control centers and the offices of the brigade commander.” Later, the IDF said it had also destroyed the Hamas brigade based in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis. “In the attack we destroyed the battalion command and control center, the commander’s office and also their special air capabilities, including a drone storage facility and air defense systems.” Following the strikes, rocket warning sirens wailed in communities around Gaza. At least two projectiles were intercepted by the Iron Dome system and another fell in an open field, the army said. There were no reports of projectiles falling in Israeli communities or injuries. The IDF Spokesman Ronen Manelis did not rule out a major ground offensive, but said the IDF was not looking to enter a full-scale conflict. Nonetheless, the fire on the troops at the border was “the most serious incident” since the 2014 conflict, Manelis said, and the IDF’s Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot had spent the years since then ensuring that the army was ready for “whatever response is necessary.” Cabinet minister Tzachi Hanegbi told Hadashot news that Israel was preparing for a massive response on Gaza. “Last week the air force carried out strikes that were described as the largest since Operation Protective Edge in 2014, we will look back at it after our response now and say it was a joke,” Hanegbi said. “The gloves are coming off.”
Here we go again.
One soldier being shot and killed led to these strikes? Didn't Israel pull the same shit a few weeks ago when they shot at a palestinian doctor?
Hundreds have been killed, thousands injured. One soldier killed? Bomb the shit out of them. Its like the time that teen threw a rock at a soldier, and the soldier gunned them down.
Israel has been hitting Gaza with airstrikes for the past two weeks.
Hey man the IDF need to take their pound of flesh because the Palestinians have the cheek to actually shoot back for once.
Gotta love how a single fucking death is apparently horrible and unacceptable to Israel... as long as it's an Israeli death.
Rule one of running a concentration camp is not to let the inmates get armed so its understandable that the IDF are pissed.
Didn't an Israeli sniper shoot a Canadian medic a month back?
Yup but remember, Israel is the victim here because their bombs aren't killing as many civilians as they could be.
Oh shit people are responding to us shooting at them by shooting back the utter barbarism on display.
"What genocide? They're breeding faster than ever!"
All they want is an excuse. The fewer Palestinians left alive after, the better they like it.
Excuse me, Israel, but isn't this a bit excessive? No, you anti-semite
Israel was a mistake
I can't wait for the inevitable walls of text that explain how this is actually a good thing, definitely not a genocide, and how we're all antisemetic for not rooting on the death of innocent Palestinians. Bring it on, Genocide Defense Squad, work your magic
Certain people here tend to defend the Israeli government even when they may not in the right
baiting responses for an ego fix, kind of a trend in most israel-related threads. on topic: shit's garbage here and nobody wants to fix the situation because the status quo is comfortable and gets votes. eventually the tension will reach a boiling point and i, personally, dont want to be here when that happens.
Fuck the IDF and its supporters.
Clearly you don't pay attention to who makes these kinds of threads, and how vehemently they defend literal genocide. Or you're just being cute
They'd do anything to kill just a few more Palestinians, the oh so poor victims of atrocities committed 70 years ago that is somehow still justified in the eyes of many
oh jfc would you calm the absolute fuck down? Read up the actual fucking terms of genocide. Yes the shit they are doing to the Palestinians is fucking terrible but is NOT GENOCIDE. "Genocide is intentional action to destroy a people (usually defined as an ethnic, national, racial, or religious group) in whole or in part. The hybrid word "genocide" is a combination of the Greek word génos ("race, people") and the Latin suffix -cide ("act of killing"). The United Nations Genocide Convention, which was established in 1948, defines genocide as "acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group." What it is, is Persecution. That's what it fucking is. ITS FUCKING PERSECUTION with what the far-right of Israel is trying to do. Once they start gunning down hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, shoveling mounds of corpses into mass graves, and destroying everything that is vaguely Palestinian. Then you can call it genocide. You can criticize Israel all the fuck you want, but calling shit that is mostly the result of Persecution and Racism as Genocide is fucking idiotic and ignorant.
The definition of genocide you gave doesn't make any distinction about the rate at which it is prosecuted. The actions of Israel's government and by extension their armed forces seem to line up fairly well with "intentional action to destroy (a national group) (in part)". It doesn't have to be rounding up people in the street and performing mass executions for them to achieve the goal of dissolving Palestine and its people. Just keep chopping up land, encouraging ineffectual retaliatory attacks, using that as justification to continue to take disproportionate military action (In which non-combatants are often killed or maimed) and continue the cycle before the dust has chance to settle. It's "smart", cynical as fuck and totally abhorrent regardless of how precisely it fits the definition of genocide.
Im not justifying that at all. What i mean is that full blown genocide has not happened as of yet. More than anything, its pretty much war-crimes that happen with every nation when it comes to warfare. And im not justifying that either, i'm just saying that happens cause its fucking war. And war is terrible. I also understand your point as well. But usually when it comes to the term of genocide. It means it has become fully apparent. Where they ain't hiding anything anymore. They have specialized camps, locations, weapons, techniques and procedures that are made to kill off as many people as possible in the quickest time frame that they can and cause as much death as possible in that time frame. And saying the things Israel is doing as "Genocide" is completely overblown and filled with overreaction. Like if Israel is doing genocide atm, they're currently fucking sucking at it. You could, in a way i stated in my post above. State that what is happening is paving a road to full on genocide. If nothing is worked out and if relations between Israel and Palestine continue to flare up. It will hit critical mass and full on genocide will happen. In a Nutshell. I'm saying Israel has not committed genocide AS OF YET, but due to recent events and the growing tensions between Israel and Palestine. It has put the region onto a crossroads that if the dark path is taken. That dark path will down-spiral into full on Genocide.
https://i.imgur.com/OD1iruS.png Let's lay this out, "calmly", since you unironically believe I need to "calm the absolute fuck down", in Plain English. Ready? A.) Are the Palestinians a large group of people, especially of a particular ethnic group? Yes. B.) Are they being deliberately killed by the Israeli Regime? Yes. C.) Would a rational person describe the situation as "mass murder", "mass homicide", a "massacre", an attempted "annihilation", and so on of the Palestinian people? Yes. D.) Are the actions of the Israeli Regime causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the Palestinian group? Yes. E.) Is the Israeli Regime deliberately inflicting on the Palestinians conditions of life, calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part? Yes. You would have to be seriously blind to either (attempt to) refute this or not realize this. This has been going on for decades. Right in front of everyone.
read my second post and zip up your fucking pants. Tired of looking at your justice boner here.
You are entitled to your opinion but I disagree. A genocide is in progress under the guise of war. Israel has the most advanced military equipment and weaponry in the world, an extremely advanced and highly effective anti-missile system (The DOME), receives military aid regularly from the United States, and so on. Israel is famous for their Six-Day-War. Why would they let this one stretch out for decades? You aren't seeing the bigger picture, what's actually happening. Innocent men, women, and children are regularly being killed by missile strikes. Homes are entirely destroyed, as well as vital infrastructure, water systems, electricity (if any) systems and so on. The quality of life of the entirety of the Palestinian people is degraded to almost nothing under the guise of "retaliatory air strikes" which are justified because someone threw a rock, or a molotov, which totally justifies missile strikes.
dont bother lmao this has been explained to him over and over again, he's too stuck to actually sit down and think this entire thread is people commenting on the israel palestine situation with little to no understanding of what things are happening and why the things are happening, preferring to paint everything as black and whtie
More like, it's been explained to you by several people over and over again , yet you again just double down and screech about "outside perspective", "black and white" and so on rather than think that maybe you're literally brainwashed and wrong about everything. Either you actually believe this or you're trying to convince us that you do lmao
You're confusing Genocide with human incompetence and collateral damage. Like this is the same logic people come up to me and try to convince me that the Bombing of Dresden during WW2 and General Sherman's march to the sea is "Genocide". Meanwhile the shit that happened because of it was from warfare. I am seeing the bigger picture here you dunce. I have researched the conflict of Palestine and Israel. I researched genocides that range from the Holocaust, the Holodomor, the Armenian Genocide, the Serbian Genocide, the Kurdish Genocide, the Rwandan Genocide, etc. (Reason because i was writing a story that revolved around a fictional one). And nothing that has happened since the formation of Israel since 1948 has not even been CLOSE to be considered as a genocide. Saying what israel did is an insult to the survivors of actual Genocides. Also if you think i am some pro-israel koolaid drinker here. I support the Two-state solution. I support the idea of Israel be held accountable for their war-crimes. I support peace between the (Hopefully what will be) the two nations. I want peace for both the Israeli and the Palestinian people. I want this shit to stop as much as you do. But doing shit is not the best approach here. If you don't believe me, i posted this in another thread. https://puu.sh/B0PxP.png https://puu.sh/B0Pw4.png
