Did they see that people liked The Orville and think that they needed to copy the 'comedy' elements from it?
Now, I'm not to up on my Star Trek Spock lore but it seems to me that Spock has become Star Trek fucking Jesus. It feels like all big events involve him in some way now ever since the reboot movies.
could they get more out of touch
Season one was only dark because of the plot. They've always said it was a journey from darkness to light.
I really want them to learn, to keep the strong elements and ditch the weak stuff. Last season was like half-assed battlestar galactica. It's a shame because I liked some of the characters, Lorca and Saru could have fit right in on previous seasons of Star Trek.
The one guy known for doing dark stuff, Akiva Goldsman, is no longer part of the show. He left before Season 2.
I liked season one and I'll probably enjoy this too, I'm not against adding some humour but if they can't do better than an alien with a cold sneezing goop on a dude then there is no point.
