"A firm and resolute understanding and commitment to cooperation between the Russian people and the people of the South could indeed be the foundation for a better world in which our peoples thrive and prosper far into the future," he added.
Hill wrote the Russian language section will be "first step in this direction."
They're not just happy about Putin putting a leash on Trump and parading him before the world to show how loyal he is - they're ecstatic and want Putin to just take over. They're literally inviting Russia in while trying to convince their fellow statesmen 'we're already practically Russian so what do we care about Russia taking over'.
Isn't Russian Orthodox Christianity significantly different to Catholicism though? I mean, it was called The Great Schism for a reason, one imagines.

The League of the South is a neo-Confederate group that advocates for a second Southern secession and a society dominated by “European Americans.” The league believes the “godly” nation it wants to form should be run by an “Anglo-Celtic” (read: white) elite.
The “godly” nation envisioned by the League should be run by an “Anglo-Celtic” (read: white) elite that would establish a Christian theocratic state and politically dominate blacks and other minorities. Originally founded by a group that included many Southern university professors, the group lost its Ph.D.s as it became more explicitly racist. The league denounces the federal government and northern and coastal states as part of “the Empire,” a materialist and anti-religious society. In recent years, it has become increasingly rabid, writing about potential violence, criticizing perceived Jewish power, and warning blacks that they would be defeated in any “race war.”
And here's how they think of themselves in their own words:

This is both healthy and Biblical. I am not ashamed to say that I prefer my own kind and my own culture. Others can have theirs; I have mine. No group can survive for long if its members do not prefer their own over others.”

The idea of seceding is so brainless. The Supreme Court ruled that the Union is permanent and states can never secede, if the idiots actually succeed in trying to secede they'll get the army on their ass and
military governorship of the South again.

The vast majority of white southerners are protestant - Catholics are in the minority and mostly associated with Latino or Italian communities. Your average southern baptist has as much grasp and understanding on the bible and it's intended interpretation as his pastor directs him so the possibility of them finding and accepting common ground with orthodox religions is more influenced by how their leaders feel on the subject than any strict doctrinal direction.
Russia has been funding Texan Independence groups since the 50s.

I imagine the whole "Russia is our friend " ideology probably didn't work out to swimmingly in the past (or more realistically - never - in terms of this country's history), so they're pushing hard for it now due to recent "events".
Bad idea, sending hierarchical self organized groups regardless of their motives or education have a habit of turning the prison into their own little castle, you'd be giving them continuous raw recruits and access to various drug channels while also not solving the problem. Ideally you would isolate them individually and teach them tolerance through exposure to what they hate.
You don't solve problems by locking people up and taking away their money you solve them with lots of hugs, logic, and a stable financial income.

Imo it feels like Russia knows Trump's days are probably number at this point. So now they're dumping all resources into these crackpot groups and movements. Since anything that keeps the USA in chaos, opens a window of Opportunity for Putin to dig its Talons into Europe and the Middle East.
As I said before: Russia has already been funding groups like this for decades. They're just upping their game because with Trump it finally paid off.
