• Games you'd bring back to the past

A friend and I were having a conversation the other night while playing Shovel Knight, and we started jokingly discussing what games would sneak a handful of into the shop shelves of the past, capable of running exactly as intended (within reason. No Crysis for the Atari 2600), and then gauge the reception. I was curious to see if anyone had any ideas. Shovel Knight itself was obvious given that it was meant to be a homage to NES games of the same genre, and it'd be entertaining to see how it'd stand up next to the actual games it payed homage to if it were out at the same time. Another one that I personally really liked was Undertale. Even though it's got a bit of a meme status now, I still remember when it blew everyone out of the water in late 2015, and I still think is a brilliant game despite how much the fandom dragged its name through the mud. Question is; how impactful would it be then as opposed to now? What're your games you'd bring back to the past?
aurora 4x i'd tell them it's the game everyone plays now and they'd be incredibly confused and probably highly disappointed
sonic mania on sega saturn
Hunt Down the Freeman, back in the glory days of Valve games, so around 2007.
Dragonball FighterZ would be really interesting to see how much the fighting game genre develops from then on.
Assuming it would be on the SNES, it would just stand next to, let say Earthbound and not look too impactful. The SNES had too many good RPGs that many went under the radar until it was discovered that all the good ones were on the SNES. Also, bring Cave story to the SNES, people would potentially made it into an pretty poweful IP
Terraria to around 1998 for the N64. Yeah, odds are it would get hit with the ol' Nintendo censorship stick but it's also a lot more likely to be released than if it was brought up for the PSX. Obviously some sacrifices and console trickery would be required for playability, especially when it came to 4 player split screen multiplayer. Which I believe was a mandatory requirement back then? its a joke, I know it wasn't mandatory. All that aside the fact that you can tear up and rebuild the world would blow people's minds back then. Also, I chose Terraria over Minecraft, Starbound and the like as it just seems like something that would have fit as a N64 title.
DOOM 2016 back to the first Quakecon
Battlefield V when the first Battlefield came out. Would be interesting to see what they think of the upgrades, streamlining and removed features.
I have so many memories of this game and playing it always has them flooding back. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/229066/2d629a5f-6ec6-427c-a1f6-69b4f6fb55b7/image.png
Skyrim, because it'll probably have a port to those old consoles soon anyways.
Pokemon always drags me back but I'm always inches away from feeling those same feelings.
Crash 2
imo the series got better when it stopped trying to be a GTA clone and just embraced the stupid
I'd bring Mass Effect 3 back to warn people not to get their hopes up. "The second one is good but it ignores the main plot. Beware the words of Casey Hudson and Mack Walters!"
