This bit at the top and bottom of each page needs to be improved:

Skip to arbitrary page. For example, give me a box where I can type "11" to reach page 11. Perhaps by clicking on the "..." between the pages?
More of the edges than the very first and very last page. I'd say 2 first pages and 3 last pages is a good balance. So the example above would look go: 1 | 2 | ... | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | ... | 11 | 12 | 13
Keep the Prev and Next buttons. No change, just wanted to mention that I like them
This is a matter of taste perhaps, but I like having redundant First and Last buttons. A common layout is: First | Prev | <numbered pages> | Next | Last, but I won't cry if this suggestion is rejected.
I think it'd be better as
Prev | 1 | 2 | ... | 6 | 7 | 8 | ... | 12 | 13 | Next
instead. No need to have all those extra pages you listed if the [...] buttons were a page jump dialog. And the first/last buttons are superfluous if page 1 and 13 (or whatever the last page is) are always visible.
Right, I said that they're redundant and it's a matter of taste. The "Next" and "Prev" buttons are redundant too, because you can click pages 6 and 8 directly, but I still prefer to use them - they're bigger and they feel better to me.
As for number of pages - you may be right.
The difference between those and the first/last buttons though is that the first/last buttons are already very close to their alternates. At best there'd be just one button between first and page 1, for example. There'd be five between first and page 6 going by my earlier example.
I wish there was a "Go to page [ ]" option where you could put in a page number.
IT would help when pages get ghosted too, which always totally and completely breaks a thread
