At least 74 people are confirmed dead from the wildfires and many more remain missing. Rescuers have recovered more than 700 survivors from the sea after fires forced them to flee into the ocean for safety. The fire swept through Mati, a small resort town just 18 miles outside of Athens, Greece. The coastal town, known for tourism and children summer camps is situated on the Mediterranean Sea with picturesque beaches. Greece Engulfed In Fire

Is there a risk of the fires reaching Athens?
This is the last thing Greece needs right now. I hope the death toll doesn't rise any more.

They're dead inside, otherwise they wouldn't do shit like this
A few days ago we were returning from a beach 20-25km or so off Mati and the sky was reddish and hazy from the fires and smoke, burning in the horizon. Flags are at half mast due to the deaths.
Its always arson... Subhuman filth
Greece is so beautiful though... Why would anyone even do this?
Thats disgusting. So basically money/profit is more important that peoples lives. Sounds like the gov. -_- I hope you stay safe out there. :/
That screams for a law to legally count burned-down areas as forests and reforest them asap.
I'm guessing its already illegal but no one ever gets caught, plus what's to stop them burning it down if it gets reforested.
If it's still legally regarded as forest when burned down, it's not going to be available for development, which means there won't be a financial incentive to do it in the first place.
Sorry, I think I failed to use a conditional there. It looks like there currently isn't such a law, so one should be created in my opinion. It wouldn't need to be completely watertight, I think, just as watertight as the existing forest law.
It's depressing how people died running for their lives in the fire, but im also worried that now that the forests are burned that the area might flood from heavy rains.
