i like it
Chat settings - compact friends area - compact friends list - small chat font size - most like the old chat as it can be if you hate it.
I can understan being unhappy with the automatic download, but what's the problem with the interface overall?
Why is everything so spaced out, it just feels wasteful. (Gimmie green steam back yo)
It's servcable once you get used to it. It's like discord, but with a sign attached saying "Not-discord"
same as facebook, people hate change because BLARGH I KNEW WHERE EVERYTHING WAS, THIS IS AWFUL Personaly, I quite like it. The UI was in dire need of a redesign imo. They're gonna redesign all the stuff right? This isn't just a steam chat thing right?
It's nice to have features expected from chat clients newer than 15 years If you haven't already I recommend to check the settings window. It has a commendable number of customization options.
why is everything electron shit
I don't like spaced out User Interfaces, it's fucking annoying to look at, why is there so much wasted space, stop it.
Wait fuck is it really electron? Fucking Christ I don't need a chat client taking a gig of RAM while I'm trying to play games
I've been in the Beta for weeks, it's a vast improvement. Now I can share memes directly with my friends, they don't have to click on the links anymore.
I remember the last major interface update to steam broke it where the tray icon or whatever it's called doesn't show when steam is downloading anymore, and they never bothered to fix that. It's been like, years. Don't have high hopes.
sorry, got it wrong, it's CEF still, same issue (chrome is known for gobbling ram after all)
I just hate the trend of designing everything to look like a tablet interface. I am not using a tablet, stop doing that.
God I can't fathom how much I hate this js garbage being shoehorned everywhere. Fucks sake krita with several canvases open uses just under 200MB meanwhile chrome has nearly a gig with a whopping 3 tabs. Telegram despite having a discord like UI is native and is just under 40MB for me. Some are so shit that battle.net uses 10% fucking GPU while idle.
Who are the "millions"? I for one enjoy it a lots. We've also have now /spoiler tag which discord devs didn't even bother with

Can't be helped that "modern UI design" is mostly made up of web designers and web developers, and that you can't make a native desktop app with just Javascript, HTML, and CSS. There has to be something in the middle. It also can't be helped Javascript is one of the easiest languages to get into, coming close to Python. Most web designers/devs I know don't want to come 10ft close to a more standard programming language like C++, C#, etc.
Yet somehow they still haven't made Store / Community separate elements yet. Why does this shit still run off like its web pages?

Electron apps are the devil, but at least it looks good.
The steam interface has been outdated and ugly for years.
Pppft, no. What are you talking about? The existing API that they were using rustled up that old-timey Half Life 1 charm. They even shared the same code, how can you get more authentic than that?
Why didn't they use Panorama for the chat like I believe Big Picture uses.
Most web designers/devs I know don't want to come 10ft close to more standard programming language like C++, C#, etc. People with this mentality tend to write really shit code from what I've seen

rip metro
Panorama is just another HTML UI engine, everything is these days and it upsets me.
What you expect that Gabe was Microsoft employee.
