https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-44957900 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeU2M36cLrc I'm triggered. First of all, Grimes characterises his infraction as just 'ticking the wrong box'. What the Commission actually says is that his BeLeave organisation exceeded its spending limit. As a non-registered campaigner, it had a limit of £10,000, which Grimes went a teensy bit over by spending £675,315. Where did that money come from? It was a donation from the main Brexit campaign, Vote Leave, which controlled BeLeave 'to the extent that Vote Leave made a commitment to a different BeLeave donor about how his money would be used'. Why did Vote Leave do this? Dunno m8 but if you add the money that Vote Leave gave to BeLeave onto their total declared spend, it exceeds their spending limit of £7m 🤔 Secondly, accusing the Electoral Commission of political bias is becoming a worrying trend. Do you remember when the Electoral Commission fined the Tories the maximum fine for fucking about with spending limits in the 2015 election? The Tory chairman claimed that was 'politically motivated' as well, even though a Conservative MP was crriminally charged over it and is currently awaiting a trial where he could be sent to prison. The EC have also fined the Lib Dems for campaign violations on the Remain side of the referendum, so whatever their 'political motivations' really are is anyone's guess. The Electoral Commission can't afford to be undermined at a time when it's actually in urgent need of greater powers. As it notes in its own press release about the Vote Leave fine, its current enforcement powers are too weak. The maximum penalty they can possibly give to an individual is a £20,000 fine. That's in relation to an overspend of nearly three-quarters of a million quid. At the moment it's kind of funny to laugh at this criminal pleb who is almost certainly going to get wrecked in court. But if attacks on the EC become a regular rightwing talking point, all it will take is for some Trump-like figure to shuffle their way into Downing Street and say 'everyone knows the EC is biased at this point, lets just abolish it'
Clearly the EC are just rabid anarchists who want to burn the whole system down from the inside by fining everybody. But only when they actually break laws of course! Can't start the revolution off with an unwarranted fine! God this guy is such a obvious /pol/ using dork.
Some people seem to confuse politics with bullying, usually the people doing the bullying see it as just how the world works and accuse the other side of being the bullies.
Shoutout to the >1000 people pissing their money away into his lawyer's pockets https://i.imgur.com/ck0QrHp.png
Boilrig is out for blood
Call my cynical but I'll be amazed if this isn't just some money making scheme.
It isn't. Just that Brexit populists they will quite happily see rule of law overturned because everyone who opposes their opinion is 'biased' even if the evidence is literally right there being presented. Kind of the same as Mueller being a Witch Hunter despite the actual convictions and indictments he's getting with solid evidence.
Thought they were talking about Singer-songwriter and girlfriend of Elon Musk "Grimes"
