Labour's code of conduct was drawn up after the 2016 Chakrabarti inquiry. It followed allegations of anti-Semitism within party ranks. The code does reproduce the IHRA's "working definition" of anti-Semitism and lists behaviours likely to be regarded as anti-Semitic - but critics point out that it leaves out four examples provided by the IHRA definition: Accusing Jewish people of being more loyal to Israel than their home country Claiming that Israel's existence as a state is a racist endeavour Requiring higher standards of behaviour from Israel than other nations Comparing contemporary Israeli policies to those of the Nazis But Labour has insisted that while the examples are not reproduced word for word, they are covered elsewhere in the new code. So basically getting accused of antisemitism for removing the parts that have nothing to do with actual religion, and more to do with making Israel above criticism. Once again trying to equate criticisms of Israel to antisemitism needs to fuck off.
The first two are like "okay, whatever" but the last two are like "you can't criticize us just because" which is BS.
Nobody is holding Israel to a higher standard than other nations. Israel just consistently behaves below the standards that the other nations find acceptable.
idgaf if your jewish but fuck the state of isreal and the IDF
I approve of possibly tweaking those minor parts in principle and think the whole thing is blown way out of proportion but I really think this is not a battle worth fighting if labour want to win a potential election. Sometimes you just have to choose a more worthwhile battle to be fighting and at the moment this antisemitism scandal has been weaponized and blown out of proportion to such an extent that fighting it is just costing too much.
Hardly. We regularly ignore atrocities committed by Arab nations.
Depends on who you mean by 'we'. Political activists and human rights orgs constantly criticize the foul treatment of women, minorities and political dissidents in Arab countries. Corrupt politicians with private business interests in the military industrial sector supply weapons and funnel finances to both Israel AND rich Arab countries with a history of human rights abuses like Saudi Arabia. They supply both sides as the private military contractors they represent make lots of money from it.
I think you'll find the average Labour activist on campus shitting on Israel but praising the Arab world.
"think" isn't really a good assertion, nobody is exactly praising the arab world especially not on facepunch
Where did I say this was on Facepunch?
You're ignoring the bigger part of the fact that you are just saying you "think", which isn't really actually backed up and you could very well be pulling it straight out your ass, i'll admit the facepunch thing doesn't make sense.
are you sure
Yo Download the Socialist Alternative weirdos you see outside the library who shout really loud are in no way the 'average labour activist'
Sorry-- is it really that audible several thousand miles away, or are you talking out of your arse? Oh-- wait...
Do you actually believe anyone, anywhere, is praising the Arab world? Is your post a joke? Are you having a stroke?
There are plenty of people who praise the Arab world. They typically come from it, but there are absolutely those that do exactly that.
Maybe people, with power already, in the Arab World are praising the Arab World but nobody else is. Least of all their human rights abuses, of all things to praise. Don't be silly.
wow acting like complete twats wont do anything to stop antisemitism
You're wrong. Many expats look back on their home country fondly. I don't get it, but many do. Also, nobody mentioned human rights abused as the things being praised. Essentially all countries from that region are trash in one way or another, but people will defend anything. I mean, hell, people regularly defend Israel for committing war crimes.
