Just bought rust a few days ago.
I'm playing with other 4 friends and it was great.
I originally got frustrated about not being able to choose character, but the fun I had playing the game made me forget it.
This didn't last long thought. The server we choose was not very populated but after the first wipe many other players started. No problem there, we started playing just to realize that 90% of the players at maniac caveman thieves! I not even cared about losing the material I gathered, what made me furious was that other players kill you for no reason. Not happy to kill you, they also destroy your sleeping bag, what make impossible to reach my friends. We had to left the server.
I believe that this happens because of a lack of objective once you start the game and from death being not severe enough. These players don't care if they die murdering someone. There is no fear factor on starting a battle. Especially on the begining. But it ruins the experience to other players.
I could not think on a way to make death more serious but I thought on a way to provide players an objective.
There could be classes that players or clans of players were assigned randomly at the first time they connect to a server. This would last untill the wipe.
There could be a the following classes: farmer, miners hunters, sellers, thieves, mercenaries (get paid to protect against thieves or by other thieves to raid someone).
Each class would have a goal end wen goals are reached some kind of reward or resource multiplier is given. Each class could also have actions that punish the player or clan if done. For example: a farmer should not be able to loot someone he kills.
I'm willing to help developing this idea if someone is interested.
Cheers
I don't think this is a good idea, Rust is not supposed to be a roleplaying game and a huge appeal of it is that players set their own objectives. If classes were provided like you mentioned, nothing would change as everyone would ignore the classes just to be free to do as they please. If they want to kill people randomly, it's not because their randomly-assigned task is "mining" that they'll prefer to do that over killing someone.
This is such a massive feature request, you're basically describing a completely different game lol,.
I thing you both guys have a point....
I haven't though on the perspective you just mentioned.
I guess I stick to the not so populated servers then...
Try Pal-ul-don a low pop server where you might still be killed but no so often
getting into survival games is tough... but thats how they work.
Also you get to chose your "role". I help players depending on how they handle themselves, but I kill nakeds on sight - because not 1 time I have been ganked by a naked "pretending" to be friendly who suddenly pulled out a shotgun or an Eoka.
Killed many times by "Hi i am friendly" nakeds
The question I have to ask is what sort off servers are you trying to play on?
One thing you need to accept about Rust. It is unforgiving. You should trust NO ONE.
You haven't played this game very much. The most common objective people set for themselves on this game is to pvp constantly. Base building is 2ndary for storing the loot you get. And roleplaying is for the best players in the game who have the skill to be able to roleplay in this chaotic environment =P
I play on Brazil servers. Ping to US is too high.
I know that the Brazilian multi player community is not the best either. The good thing is that I'm playing with some other friends, so it makes things easier once we manage to get together.
