Just because the Nintendo Switch is handheld doesn't mean Nintendo's let go of their precious, successful handheld child, the Nintendo 3DS. Touting two screens and a glasses-less 3D gimmick, the 3DS is still alive and well. There are three families of the 3DS line: 2DS, 3DS, and New 3DS. New Nintendo 3DS features improved 3D, more buttons, and doubled processing power to support higher-spec games.

Why is everyone saying the Nintendo Switch Online is going to be bad? Isn't it going to be centralized servers?
Given how much of a trashfire almost every other online service Nintendo has offered has been, I 100% don't blame people for being very skeptical of Switch Online, I'm in the same boat. Obviously I want it to be good but I'll believe it when I see it.
Nintendo has described quite a few perks that Nintendo Switch Online will provide (20 NES games, cloud saves, etc), but they haven't really provided any info on what justifies the pricetag in the first place. Unless I'm mistaken, we've had no word on improved servers, increased server tickrates, anti-cheat systems, or anything that would make the Switch's online experience better.
I hope they clear all this up in a Nintendo direct soon.
Nintendo Switch Online killed the last thread
it fucking sucks
In seriousness, with them not saying anything about improvements of the actual switch online service this feels like nintendo is trying to cash in
Because it's going to be trash.
They want you to pay for Splatoon 2 online. Splatoon 2 has fucking 16 tick servers. Like fuck off with that shit.
They'll talk about the online in a big August direct or some time around then, because I'm sure it'll be brought along with a new system update.
Personally I'm excited for the family plan- only paying about 4-5 bucks instead of the full 20 as well as helping out my friends is well worth it, even if the games aren't improved webwise (though I hope they will be)
No matter how good of a "deal" the family plan is. You are still paying to much money for the internet service they provide. It's obvious they are only doing this to hop on the bandwagon. "Well the other consoles are doing it!!! " without providing any of the benefits you get with other consoles. You are now able to "pre-order" the online codes and we still know nothing more then we did last year about it besides it's happening.
You're paying for literally nothing new and worse versions of features existing on other Nintendo consoles
Whoever was complaining that how Capcom fucked up the SNES emulation for Megama X Legacy Collection, Nintendo ain;t innocent either. Sure their worsk but it took them how fucking long to get Super FX chips games to run on their emulator when PC emulator from 2001 was able to run it. Also the 3DS couldn't even handle SNES until the New Nintendo 3DS. Hell, they never got GBA running on it either aside from the Ambassador program, which I'm honestly surprised that ended up being exclusive to early adopters.
We know nothing yet about Nintendo Online aside from the 20 NES Games and Cloud Save. It might be only $20 but still feels very lazy.
Both of these have to do with the shortcomings of the 3DS's original design. The 3DS could not emulate SNES well at its clock speed of 268MHz unless it did crazy hacky shit like the SNES homebrew emu did, which Nintendo usually avoids doing. The GBA ambassador games on 3DS was essentially running on weird double backwards compatibility instead of emulation, meaning they couldn't add anything like save states and sleep mode. Because of that they couldn't brand it as "Virtual Console" and ended up never selling it. If you ever look at Wii games on Wii U, they don't have the Virtual Console banner for the same reason, they just say Wii.
As a sidenote just because Capcom hasn't handled it right doesn't mean that when Nintendo also messes it up it's fine; both of them should have this figured out.
Actually, PC emulators for a long time did not run any SNES game correctly, but instead used all sorts of speedups and trickery to simulate how they used to play. Legitimately accurate emulation is a lot harder and is what Nintendo aims for with these releases.
That's fair, I'm just an optimist I guess. We aren't that close to release and I think an August direct would be enough time for them to talk about it, but I agree they should have done that sooner.
Well we better get information on August because they're not doing a good job on selling it to people and I wouldn't be surprised if it failed, but given that you'll most likely need it to play Smash Bros online... well at least it only cost like $2 for a month.
Still I'm quite surprised they even got GBA running even as a weird backward compatibility, and never did anything else with it after that, even with the New Nintendo 3DS as it should have enough power to run GBA as VC. Still, surprised it took Nintendo 12 years to get Super FX chip games to emulate.
I swear Nintendo better do something for people who bought the games already because I'm really sick and tired to pay full price for a new console generation. Also the fact that we're getting less NES/SNES games for some reason, like Kirby's Dreamland 3 is on the Wii U but not on the 3DS.
Better than nothing for the time. It still blew my mind the first time I "somehow" stumbled upon a emulator. I have no idea how my 11 year-old mind was able to navigate the old web and finding it, and then have the patient to download some games as they took fucking forever back in the days.

For those who are looking to beat a huge giant of darkness with a rat, a painter and teenage Meta Knight, the update is out.
I'm holding my judgement on the Online service until I see more (hopefully full) details released. I'm pessimistic, but for about $4 a year if you join a family plan it's not a big deal if it lacks features as long as its stable.

Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing Transformation Nintendo Edition. But hey, more cardboard that you can use with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in a future update.
Why are the playable characters not miis? Whatever, it looks really neat
the most experience ive had with online on a nintendo console was MH4U/X, did those run off of nintendo servers or capcom servers? i never really had much of an issue with disconnects and shit like that

Not sure if anyone posted this yet.
It was in the prior thread, but your contribution is always appreciated.
So the final battle theme for Adeliene & Ribbon is a medley of Zero-Two, Miracle Matter and Ripple Star. and the one for Dark Meta-Knight is a combination of the first two phases of Dark Mind.
Games in the far future in the OP is missing: Bayonetta 3, Shin Megami Tensei V
However, the thing is that Nintendo has postponed the online service by a full year. If it's really just nothing new and worse, then they could have made it faster. I'm still kinda cautiously optimistic that it's not going to be a trash fire like some people claim. I think it will be 50% good features bundled with 50% of bad features, because that's how Nintendo usually does it.
If the stuff with the 20 NES games, smartphone voice chat and the memberships were already everything for the online service, then they wouldn't let us wait for actual new infos.

"The game will feature iconic songs from Neon Genesis Evangelion, Disney favorites including Frozen and Zootopia, and tracks from Kemono Friends, Osomatsu San, Hatsune Miku, and even Touhou Project. We didn’t forget to include some of our own personal favorite songs from the Tekken series, Tales of Berseria, Ridge Racer, and IdolM@ster!"

I will truly freak out if they actually manage to bring over the entire playlist from the JP version
Basically I want children to experience the magic that is the Kamen Rider Build theme song
I am probably still going to get the Japan version since it will be in English soon.

Here's hoping that 8bitdo releases a wireless version. Please.
They won't even have to try with Nintendo Online. Smash is coming in December and it's going to sell by the millions, online is mandatory for that game.
Not even going to mention how huge the Splatoon fanbase is, this is a wall they're going to tear down immediately no matter what's behind it.
Let's be honest, I have no hope in their services but I'm in the same boat as everyone else. Smash is going to be extremely dull without online, and everyone is going to pressure me from all sides to play the game online. There's no doubt in my mind that they're fully banking on that.
It's been ten years since Brawl, they haven't made the effort to improve their server infrastructure since then. Doubt it'll change now.
I mean, if they have these big games that require online, and if there is noticeable issues (We all think there will be) and it gets media attention, then they'd have to improve it. At least in terms of connectivity and server issues.
As for content, I have the hope of them revitalizing the old classic games like with what they've done before. Like have the 3rd gen pokemon games get the 1/2nd gen 3ds treatment. Implement online and pokebank, include some mythicals as a bonus. I'm sure there's a ton of classic games that could do great with some TLC. Hell, get some N64 Golden Eye online or something.
Then there's the mediocre My Nintendo rewards. That thing needs a big rework because most of that stuff is pretty trash :V
