(Electronics) Anyone have any experience with an ISD1700 voice recorder chip?

Idk if this is even the right forum for a question like this, but...

I'm trying to make a voice recorder with this chip, I have everything setup as described by the data sheet, I am following the typical application circuit that uses AUX in to record audio(bottom of data sheet). My problem is anything I record into the chip gets played back at an almost inaudible level.

Anyone have any ideas about how you can amplify the signal on the AUX/AUD out pin cause thats something I want to try.

Maybe my chip is defective because according to the data sheet, there's an internal class d speaker driver that connects directly the speaker through the SP+/- pins on the chip. And its not amplifying anything based on my experience.
