Imo, i dont like the idea of subscribing to a game library. I dont particularly want games to move even further away from ownership towards games as services.
It'll only become a problem if it completely takes over the medium.
People compare it to netflix for gaming. But one critical difference is that with movies (and some shows) is that once you finish watching, you don't really need to watch it anymore, a physical film will just sit on a shelf for years.
Games are something that people still would come back to time and time again
I might just be bad at reading, but, this doesn't mean I'll have to start paying to play games I already own, right?
All... One, of my games, but a game I play the shit out of regardless.
That sounds fine and dandy and all, but remember these are the times of the giant conglomerate shitheap corporations. So there is no guarantee whatsoever that things are going to get easier, cheaper or more convenient.
Doesn't really say much about the game I already own. If I already bought it for full price, I sure hope they aren't so monumentally fucking brain-dead to make people pay a subscription to play games they've bought, especially ones that they bought before this service was put in place.
But I'm going to assume that they aren't that brainbustingly idiotic.
I hope.
I've been using Origin Access for past year and I am happy with it tbh.
What's the difference between origin Accesa and this premier shit?
If you go to a game's page on Origin and you own it it'll say that you own it. For example I own Battlefield 1 so it says "You own the Standard Edition", if you have a game through Origin Access it'll say "You have this game through Origin Access".
Cities Skylines is fucking worthless w/o steam workshop
Still not as worthless as the SimCity reboot
I randomly enjoy Origin Access, usually have it for 3-4 months a year. It's definitely not what I'd move to for all games but the service has value for sure.
Not in a million years am I giving EA guaranteed monthly income. Valve went from making games to mediocrity in only 10 years, if EA is already bad what's it going to do to them?
The way I see it, if I know they have a library of games that I'll one off play and be done with I can see why these subscriptions are appealing. You can always cancel the subscription when you're done playing all of the games you wanna play.
I think Xboxs will be well worth investing in soon since it's so cheap. Not sure about EA yet.
I subbed to access for Battlefield One - I don't want to pay full price for a game when I'm only interested in the multiplayer and will probably get bored after a few weeks. It's very rare I play games for so long so in my eyes it's a bargain since I get my fill of the game for a fraction of the price.
So this is why they quietly shut down their games on the house program.
So is this basically a reiteration of GameTap that Turner Broadcasting did back in the early 2000's?
It's completely taking over the medium in AAA.
i look forward to seeing how they are going to ruin this system for customers
Exlusive DLCs, Sports 19 or 20 games will be made exclusive to this system and all that fun
I just got into Origin Access recently, and I have no qualms with it, or the system.
Wasn't ever planning on playing Titanfall 2, BF1, Mad Max, The Surge, or Dragon Age: Inquisition, let alone buying them. But I've been playing them for the last week and it's been pretty solid.
As long as there's something in there to entice you, I'd say Origin Access is worth it. I don't know if I'd hop onto Premier though, I''ve currently paid like 5 bucks for a month for a ton of games, paying triple that for brand new games doesn't seem that bad unless I'm planning on playing BFV or Anthem for the next years, would I rather buy them at full price and own them forever, or just rent them all for a month for 15 bucks?
iirc they've it mentioned in gamesindustry.biz some time ago that they are transitioning into a subscription + microtransaction model instead of the usual upfront payment
Expect future EA games to follow suit, free trials on purchase and exclusives, probably.
I have Origin Acees but dont really think Ill be doing the premier service. I like the vault games and I'm not dying to play EA games at launch really since it seems they get better with age(patches content updates). Also some family members use my account to buy themselves the sims 4 dlcs at discount and I guess thats good for getting the fam to like me more.
Should I feel bad if I say I want this to crash and burn to spite EA's horrendous business practices?
