Arlington citizenship fund has too much cash; county says donors..

Arlington’s new citizenship assistance fund started with a $7,000 donation from a retiree
who figured immigrants who worked so hard to take the federal citizenship test might
need help with the $725 application fee.
Then, as other residents heard about it, they began to pitch in, too.
Within months, as President Trump’s crackdown on undocumented immigrants made
headlines and spawned outrage in blue states across the country, Arlington County accumulated
another $40,000 in donations.
But only four people have applied for the funds, and employees of the county’s human
services department became “a little nervous about how long it will take to use it up,” said
County Board chair Katie Cristol (D).
So Cristol is asking others who are inclined to donate to give their money to organizations
that help immigrants: the Legal Aid Justice Center, Legal Aid Services of Northern Virginia,
Just Neighbors, Ayuda, or Northern Virginia Family Service.
Cristol revealed the boom in donations on the little-watched “County Board Wrap-up” report,
about 25 minutes into a 30-minute YouTube video.
Had no idea the fee was that high just to take the test. God help those who take it and fail.
Also, what's up with the coins icon in the thread title?
I believe that demarks it as a question thread with 13 coins being the bounty.
GF just took it. She's gonna be a citizen next month!
Its not just to take the test, its for all the paperwork that goes before the test and background checks and such. It is a lot and probably shouldn't cost that much though.
Not to mention some people will hire an immigration lawyer to get their family members over
Oh, I thought that cost was solely for the test. If that cost includes all the other paperwork, it's a little less expensive sounding. A little less.
Should still be drastically lower, at least up front. The vast majority of illegals in this country are only illegals because they can't afford to take the test, and otherwise, are perfectly capable of passing it and being here legally. I bet if it were possible to either defer payment until after the immigrant is settled in and making a good living or just outright waive it(God knows we could afford to do so if we cut some funding from bullshit like the TSA and the NSA domestic spying) the amount of illegal immigration in this country would plummet.
Definitely. The test is like 8th grade civics class level + an english test
