John Nallen, 21st Century Fox CFO, told Fox shareholders the merger is expected to be completed in the first half of 2019.
On track for the dystopia i see.
The 2010s will be remembered in history as when America finally entered late stage capitalism
We really should have laws that say set that bar lower than full-blown monopoly, or even de facto monopoly. Although I don't know enough about the medium industry to understand the implications of this, on principle I don't feel too comfortable with so much of it being under one company.

Ok Hank Hill better be in Kingdom Hearts 3

There have been periods similar: around 100 years ago.

Wasn't the FCC taking a stance against the merger a couple days ago?
This cyberpunk dystopia is a lot lamer than I was expecting.
Is dystopia inevitable for any sufficiently advanced civilization?
That's a different, much worse merger. This one is tame by comparison
No fully advanced civilization tainted by the Sweet Taste of Coca-Cola™ can escape.
what the fuck is that header image jfc
I’m gonna be a buzzkill and say that this joke doesn’t work because you don’t need permission to satirize characters or even full IP’s
Oh sweet, there goes some more of the parks budget.
Corporations merging together is the weirdest fucking form of behavior ever to me. If you are no longer interested in competing or being in charge of something anymore, is it not better to just go home and do some other shit instead of letting your company get owned by someone who is not you?
Do these people have so little respect for anything other than money and stone dead business that they are willing to fuck over their own company for it? It doesn't even make sense from a selfish business man perspective because these sorts of people usually love to compete and prove who is the biggest dick out there, and yet independent companies keep merging into progressively more absurd mega conglomerates instead of retaining some form of dignity.
Did this country get so fucked up that even the assholes who usually revel in wealth don't even care anymore?
You know shit is fucked even when the bad guys give up their ambition.
wait untill the mickey-mourderbots are rolling up your driveway
I'll believe it's "late stage" when there's an actual end in sight
for all we know, this is just the beginning
holy shit that means king of the hill could be in fortnite
I wish to bring the pro-pain
Nah this is just the buildup. Dystopia doesn't just pop outta nowhere.
That would be the 1970's
I just hope we get some cool sounding evil megacorporations ruling everything. Having Dinsey brand Death Troopers everywhere would just sound lame.
Some friends I know are saying they're glad it happened. RIP
I don't think very many people know or care about what this actually means
disney doesn't really have a monopoly, though this will hurt the hollywood unions I think as there are now less major major motion picture studios left
Yes, I know, which is why I said that there should be a law that sets that bar lower than monopoly. AKA, we shouldn't wait until one company holds all of the industry, or even until 90%, until we forcefully split them up.
As a recent college graduate in the media field Disney scares me like nothing else. Disney is growing at a terrifying rate and the kicker is that this growth is sustainable for their empire. Disney is the exact opposite of what their general public perception is as a cuddly friendly company with Mickey Mouse when in fact they're a growing media empire that aims to devour as much of the market as they can.
The entirety of Reddit is celebrating it because X-men and Fantastic 4.
We deserve a dystopia.
I know some people will hate this but in my mind every little bit less power Murdoch has over the media the better.
