Lmao basically gossip
I really can't turn the news on frequently anymore, or even late night TV. As much as I dislike Trump, hearing about him and the same scandals day after day would drive me crazy.
Kinda makes sense to have more news on something extremely close to home as that though.
Stormy is a relevant story but I do feel like people spend way too much time on it. With a 24/7 news cycle we spend way too much time on a lot of things.
I actually have no idea who she is, so I guess take that MSNBC?
If we can inpeach over a blow job I think stormy daniels is important enough to be on the news. Besides, yemen war is far off and wouldnt get ratings. The president paying off a porn star would.
They're still the media after all, and home stuff gets more views so 🤷
Porn star who has sex with Trump and then sued him because an NDA fell through.
Mass media is infantilizing.
Russia is a hugely popular story because it presents an enemy while completely ignoring the fact that US politics has been purchased by domestic corporations for decades already. It's why a lot of these neoliberals support these imperialistic wars. https://soundcloud.com/citationsneeded/episode-43-russiagate-year-3-how-liberals-martial-posture-harms-the-left-part-1
It would probably be nice if the news kept us up to date on all the countries that we're bombing. It was like 13 last years, but who knows now.
I think the American people would be more interested in knowing that their tax dollars are goings towards helping a theocratic terror state commit war crimes in the poorest country in the Arab world, rather than the fact that the president fucked a porn star over ten years ago. The same state we just sold over $100 billion worth of weapons to.
Haven't the right-wingers been screaming their lungs out for the past several decades that people should fix their own problems before looking at the problems of others? You're not going to be able to stop that war while a Russian puppet is POTUS.
I think they would be interested in both about as equally but for very different reasons.
I'm not saying it's a non-story, I think it's an important piece. But does this ratio of coverage seem okay to you?
No, but I also don't think it'd be 'more important' as you put it.
I just disagree then. The Stormy Daniels story and Trump's involvement in it are undeniably scummy, but in terms of sheer numbers of casualties, war crimes, and tax dollars, yeah, I think a Western liberal democracy helping a fundamentalist dictatorship bomb schools and hospitals is a bigger story than a shady affair. Almost nobody knows this is happening.
And that's why we disagree. You see only a shady affair. I see a President who's potentially compromised by blackmail, who is likely lying about other, larger pieces of news. Which means if this story bores out -- if it's proven that he's lying to protect himself -- then he's probably lying about those other things he demands he's telling the truth about. A President who's willing to use any and all of his powers to ensure that nobody's able to actually bring him to justice for anything he does.
It shouldn't have to be a comparison. If you want to criticize the media for not covering Yemen (or Somalia, or the half -dozen countries we have ground troops in across Africa and the Middle East) then just do that. Don't try to minimize the Stormy Daniels thread.
It's not exactly a secret that Trump is a pathological liar. If you want compromising information, just look at all his business connections. Not just Russian oligarchs, he took money from Israeli banks, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, China... He owes like $300 million (or some other absurd number) to Deutsche Bank. Stormy Daniels is the least compromising part of this. The president is aiding an Islamist government in killing innocent people, blocking humanitarian aid etc. There's a million cases of cholera in Yemen because the blockade prevents medicine from coming in. 15,000 people have died. If you think that's an equal story to Stormy Daniels then I don't know what to say other than rethink your sense of proportion. If Trump is corrupt then he should be impeached, tried in an American court and imprisoned. If the US is helping Saudi Arabia wage a brutal war in Yemen, multiple government officials should be tried in an international tribunal at The Hague.
The US has a law so that we'll invade a country that tries US citizens for war crimes.
I was responding to a post that said Stormy Daniels is covered more because it's "closer to home." I disagree with that, so I'm going to say so.
Devils Advocate since its related to the Trump-Russian investigation. But i will agree its been fucking overkill.
Well Avenatti has been saying he wants exactly this. 8:17 https://youtu.be/am3vQ7OtYLM?t=8m17s
