Looking for general thoughts on achieving the "holy grail" as facepunch calls it. Getting rust to a point where there is no wipe needed. Ive heard the idea of transitioning to different island 'levels' (i.e. starter island, lvl 2 island and so forth). Wondering what other ideas are out there.
Ark idea: there is simply no wipe
Conan idea: some soft of an "apocalyptic" event that players bring upon themselves the more they "do" (i.e there is a meter that fills up, and once its full - a Purge happens)
Fallout 76 idea (not 100% confirmed): nuclear missiles, or similar to Conan - some "apocalyptic" event that fits the lore, which will pretty much "wipe out" all/some of population and rest the game
I'm kinda into the Ark type, but honestly that's just a lot of work and a lot of content, probably not the chosen type.
Ark set up currently won't work in Rust - as everyone will be maxed out running with AKs and all BPs learned eventually. (which will make it super boring and 50% of items never will be used)
Also Vanilla Ark is pretty cancer. The only difference from vanilla Rust is that you farm and build your base for 2 months (instead of like a week, as in Rust) - and then you get raided and lose all your shit.
So in Rust - farm for a week and then get raided and lose all your shit.
Ark - farm for 2 month and spend time breeding dino's or building base - then get raided and lose it all.
Couldn't have said it better myself, but I was mentioning the "lore progress" Ark has, that is going from Ark 1 to Ark 2 and so on. Then again Rust isn't a game for continuous progress and new items like that.
The wipe cycle is pretty ingrained into rust at this point. Extending the wipe cycle is probably the most we can hope for. That requires less toxicity and less zerging on day one and 2. From my experience that is what starts the server pop death. There are a few 2 week to 1 month wipe cycle servers that semi work. There are also modded 4 day wipe cycle servers that still die the last day of wipe. Going back to an XP system would be unpopular, which is a game mechanic way of extending wipe cycles. What other ways could we actually extended wipe cycles with game mechanics? It seems by necessity that it is synonymous with slowing progression.
