Mueller names 35 witnesses for first Manafort trial Prosecutors plan to make their tax and bank fraud case against Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman, by calling a string of accountants, bankers and luxury-goods vendors before a jury to demonstrate that Manafort’s extravagant lifestyle was funded by offshore accounts he never disclosed or paid taxes on, a new witness list made public Friday indicates. Complying with a judge’s order, special counsel Robert Mueller’s team submitted a roster of 35 witnesses the prosecution may call at the longtime lobbyist and political consultant’s trial, set to kick off next week. The deep dive into Manafort’s pricey tastes is expected to include testimony from a proprietor of a New York boutique where he allegedly spent more than $850,000 on high-end suits, an employee of a car dealership where Manafort’s wife bought a $130,000 Mercedes, the owner of a Florida home-theater company and a manager of season-ticket sales for the New York Yankees. Few individuals involved in Manafort’s lucrative Ukraine-related consulting work appear to have made the cut, although prosecutors did signal plans to call Tad Devine, who did some work on the project for Ukraine’s Party of Regions and was a top strategist for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in his bid for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination. Democratic consultant Daniel Rabin, who also worked in Ukraine, is on the prosecutors’ witness list. Party of Regions are the pro-russian party which were overthrown after the 2014 Ukrainian revolution
"Devine’s firm Devine Mulvey Longabaugh said in a statement. “We have been assured by the Special Counsel’s Office that we have no legal exposure, did not act unlawfully, and that Tad is testifying as a fact witness." Not sure what the sympathy ratings are for?
How on earth do you manage to spend more than $850,000 on suits?
Don't underestimate how much money rich people can waste on dumb shit. They can go on an afternoon stroll in the city and come back with hundreds of thousands worth of shoes and designer bags.
Either he bought a shit load of suits (who doesn't need several thousand suits? ) or paid a completely ridiculous price for them. Either way I don't understand how even a rich person could actually justify blowing that much money on freaking suits.
Super rich people rarely understand the value of money. There was a game the media would play in my country a while back where they would ask Tory politicians how much a pint of milk costs, just to get a few laughs when they said outlandish shit like £10.
The Rich understand Money in the same way a pro-player for an arcade understands points.
You also had someone caught with flash cards, iirc.
Kinda sad that an adviser for sanders is named as a witness is the biggest hit possible on sanders. Mans an angel.
It's not even a hit. It's "Adviser in some way knew about another guy's wrongdoings, and is legally squeaky clean otherwise"
Designer brand suits can be stupidly expensive. You can get coats that cost multiple thousands just because it's made by some brand. Once you get rich, the amount you pay becomes a status symbol. People spend like $50,000 on a suit because they can and having a suit from that brand makes others say "wow that dudes rich." And then you go and you have a wardrobe of 17 of those suits for every occasion.
Spending money for the sake of looking rich is quite possibly the dumbest trend.
Yes and no You have that very concept to thank for the Sistine Chapel and other great works.
Why are people acting like the fact that he's a witness means he's guilty of something?
Because when you’re obsessed with spinning shit, everything looks like a top.
Dude, you're talking about the Sistine Chapel and I'm referring to idiots who pay $150 for a pair of jeans that are dirty and torn to shit, because seemingly hobos are the latest fashion trend.
They were paid. You sure are a disingenuous person to assume that’s what was said when it isn’t. the Catholic Church exploited its power wealth reach and people. Deal with it.
I thought this was a thread about Sander's adviser being a witness, not shitting on shady Renaissance era Catholics.
