I wish cable would just die already tbh
Spectrum is pretty awful anyway. They didn't improve much from when they were Time Warner. We use Direct TV/AT&T and aside from having poor reception on rainy days, we haven't had much of an issue since we switched over. There's probably better service providers but I know when we had Time Warner it was absolute garbage.
In the Berkshires of Massachusetts we only have access to Spectrum. Spectum's service has been consistently worse than when they were just Time Warner and we no longer receive any Massachusetts news channels, we only get Albany NY channels, so basically through cable we have no idea what's going on in our own commonwealth and just get what's going on in an entirely different state who's policy doesn't effect us. Spectrum is actively cutting off consumers in Western Massachusetts of information that effects their daily life because it's inconvenient for the corporation.
Yeah it's honestly super awful. While Time Warner Cable was never exactly good it was at least bearable. But ever since Charter aquired TWC and rebranded it/engulfed it (?) into Spectrum, its pretty apparent that now they're just doing the absolute bare minimum, and sometimes not even that. I've had more internet downtime in some of the months Spectrum has been probing my ass-wallet than in the many years that I was under TWC. I too hate the Albany thing and I can only wonder how the fuck local channels within the area are staying afloat if literally nobody who is using the predominate cable provider in the area can tune in to them.
They improved here in Indiana. The entire time we had Time Warner they almost never gave offers or upgrade our speed. As soon as Spectrum took over they bumped my speed from 35 to 60 then to 100 for free.
We were originally under Charter before all the mergers happened. Once they bought up Time Warner, things got noticeably worse.
This is kinda of a big deal because if spectrum leaves New York state with no replacement in my city the only other option in my area is DSL and that's 500KB down for $70 a month or more whereas I'm paying $50 a month 2.5 MB down This may actually ruin a few business in my city because I know for a fact that they cannot go back to DSL so they may have to move or close if it's handled really badly.
Honestly, good. You don't get to just rebrand your garbage internet and call it a day.
pls no i get gigabit over cable for like $100/mo
I've found it hard to do better than Charter/Spectrum. Never used Time Warner, but they were shit from everyone I heard. The fact Charter/Spectrum insist on not doing caps or throttling is especially hard to beat.
Same here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We used to get around those speeds but can now get 200 down for cheaper. They provide the fastest speeds in my area that I know of.
Spectrum in my area in Wisconsin improved. We got fiber mix. Fibers on lines coax to homes. Currently have 400 mbps plan. And it's cheap as fuck. 1-2 years ago highest I could get was 100 mbps and it was scarce.
The Muni fiber people in my state get symmetrical gigabit for $50/mo. And 10 gigabit symmetrical options are available.
Is cable tv still used by alot of people in US?
It's going away pretty quickly, but there is still a lot of older people who cling to that and landline phone.
Yeah landlines are still pretty common here in households (specially elderly people) but IPTV took over cable TV by alot, literally everyone who I know doesnt use cable anymore. Cable was shit here anyways, for like 5€ you had 20 channels but I never seen all of them work at the same time, god forbid if it was raining or snowing.
Update: https://www.techspot.com/news/75713-spectrum-no-longer-allowed-operate-new-york-must.html In addition to revoking their approval of the 2016 merger, New York has issued $3 million in fines and referred the case to the State Supreme Court. The Commission has also referred a false advertising claim to the Attorney General after Spectrum missed every network expansion target but continued to advertise as if they were delivering fast speeds. ... In the short term, Spectrum must continue to operate uninterrupted for the next 60 days while the state finds an acceptable replacement service provider. New York has also requested that Spectrum design a transition plan. In a statement, the company said they have "extended the reach of [their] advanced broadband network to more than 86,000 New York homes and businesses." Their contract stated they would actually expand access to 145,000 homes and businesses.
Not sure if its only that common here in Europe and probably Asia, correct me if I'm wrong but it's pretty nice. A pretty big selection of channels, recording shows, you can watch up to 7 days back on majority of channels and also video on demand. I'm not on fiber but even if the TV is on an HD channel for example I really dont notice the speed getting slower.
Yeah we don't have anything like that here. Then again, the only ISP here is the cable company...
Time Warner was much better than Spectrum in LA. As soon as it switched to Spectrum prices for new plans went up, with new installation/activation fees for the technician they sent over to my new apartment to plug in the modem.
Not that this isn't true for your region, but this just means your region has absolutely garbage internet. "No data caps or throttling" should never be a perk of an ISP.
Agreed Suddenlink is very very good where I live. The alternative is CenturyLink DSL for 5mbps at the same price wtf
Just about every other ISP does one or both.
Its good here in Missouri, too bad theres gigabit in st louis but it hasnt branched out much at all.
I get fiber optic to the modem from century link here in my apartment because the property group has a contract with them that forces them to provide that service to ALL their properties. Everyone else in my state doesn't even get the 5mbps they pay for from CenturyLink. And charter/spectrum here at 30mbps costs more than what I pay for 1gbps... It's almost as if ISPs are artificially throttling consumers so they don't have to provide reasonable service.
