My dumbass joined the Runescape again and bought a membership anticipating that I would have fun grinding for hours. I've changed a lot since 2007.
If I can say one thing that RS3 did unambiguously better than OSRS, it's that most of the QoL improvements they made are absolutely fantastic. I can't agree that the lodestone network is a good idea (but it's partly balanced by having the Teleport To and jewelry teleport locations for each area being much more convenient than the Lodestone Teleport locations), but practically everything else makes grinding skills and preparing for another bout of grinding way less of a pain in the ass.
mere mention of Evolution of Combat makes me physically ill
As someone who grew up on the novelty of the internet and, in turn, the wonder and promise of the MMO, RS will always have a special place in my heart. The world is wonderfully put together, the gameplay is completely unique and has something to offer for everyone, and the quests are iconic and compelling beyond anything I've seen in any other MMO.
It's really rough seeing what happened to RuneScape as I used to know it, but I'm really grateful that OSRS exists and has a Dev team that seems just as passionate about the game as I am.
Honestly, I'd consider getting back into runescape now that I can actually afford to pay for membership every month, but there's probably no chance they'd still have my old character on file, right? Not after all these years.
you have to start fresh for old school anyway
All old accounts are connected to the RS3 database and all players are required to reset on OSRS.
On another note - I really miss private servers. They were quite fun to fuck around with and meet people. Shame JAGEX took them down even though I understand why they did.
I got a free membership on Twitch prime and got back into it. Its an enjoyable time killer. Haven't delved into the advanced stuff yet
I think people give rs3 too hard of a time.
It certainly deserves some hate, especially for its unabashed microtransactions and cluttered game world, but it really isnt that much worse than osrs for most things.
I mean, at this point not only can you completely get rid of eoc combat, but you can use revolution and play with eoc without manually using any abilities.
rs3 is a diamond covered in shit unfortunately
See, I wouldn't even say that rs3 is so good that it could be called a diamond, or that its flaws are so bad that they could be called shit.
It's more like an opal covered in mud.
