I understand the concept, I agree that the way they market the products, specifically shaving products, is bad. However, women don't have to buy them? I tell my girlfriend this all the time, stop buying the expensive razors just because they are marketed for females.
gonna need some sauce on that
ive never really understood this whole thing - yes its fucked up that companies sell a "different" product to women that ends up being the same and just costs more, but why not just... buy the product made for men or whatever then? thatll actually achieve something (youre putting money towards the male product which ends up giving them less money). companies are only gonna keep making these seperate products as long as people actually buy them. you stop buying them, they stop making them. simple as that, really. about the only REAL thing i can think of is hygiene products maybe, like shampoo and soaps or things like that. hell if i know the actual ingredient difference, maybe whats put into them IS actually different than whats made for men, but then maybe it costs the company more to get those ingredients, therefore they have to increase the price?
Supply meets demand.
This is just anecdotal evidence, but I know all the male targeted shampoo I've tried was fucking awful. Makes my hair feel thin and dry
yeah ive used female shampoo a few times and it legit just makes my hair feel just way better. so something obviously has to be different about them then, right? like i said it could just be a price increase to still be able to make a profit, and not just some big secret corporate scheme to suck more money out of women.
This is just absurd 'pink tax' what the fuck lol
Yeah, there are a few niche cases but for the large majority of cases the "Pink Tax" exists because womens products are made with nicer ingredients and perfumes.
In my time working in retail I've seen a fair amount of items that were more expensive for no determinable reason. The biggest example I can think of is socks. At the store where I work we had a 10pk of womens crew socks for 20$. Then a second 20pk of mens crew socks (exact same brand, identical socks) for 20$
It's important to note that Men's and women's razors are not the same, different products cost differently. Men's and women's underwear is different and cost differently. That's not to say there aren't women's products that cost more just because they're pink, or "for women", but if so, just don't buy them. The misleading part of this video is the women are forced to pay more and are not allowed to buy the men's box. Nobody is forcing women to buy pink things. They're only more expensive because people are willing to pay more for them. Stop buying them and the price will drop. I think it's wrong to make women's products cost more but I don't think it's some systemic anti-woman campaign, just someone in marketing saying, 'hey I bet there are girls who would be willing to spend more for this because it's pink'
No one is stopping you from buying the cheaper razor. It's not the companies fault for women being dumb enough to spend more for different packaging.
its like people forget that theyre out there to make money - if people will pay more for something just because its pink, can you really fucking blame them?
Spoiler: Men's razors are typically more expensive than women's razors. So unless men's razors are higher quality, men are actually the ones getting shafted here.
Weird. Where I shop women's razors are typically the one's that are cheaper. Maybe I'm just wrong, though.
never ever buy 2-1 or 2-1, you're going out of your way to fuck your hair up then. get something nongendered and good like tea tree
I usually go for herbal essence because it makes my hair feel nice and also is cheap
I found a weird inversion of this once where a pink tool kit was like 20% cheaper than an identical toolkit that just wasn't pink. Am I supposed to care that its pink if I'm getting my tools cheaper? Paint them with rainbows and glitter, I don't fucking care if it knocks some cost off. In-store marketing it some of the dumbest shit.
I like that the lesson being made here is that its dumb to pay for pink shit rather than some price gap argument
i dont get the fancy 9000 blade razor s thing, there super expensive and shit at the same time, i guess people are scared to use a classic safety razor even though its pretty hard to cut yourself even with a cutthroat or shavette
My local gun store had a Saiga AK74 with pink furniture for $450 and a Saiga AK74 with plum furniture for $790. I asked them about it and it turned out they had been sitting on the pink one for over a year, nobody would buy it because it's pink so they kept dropping the price
Sounds like a good way to get a cheap kalash, just replace the furniture or cerakote it or something. Especially since AK74s are always going fast when they're sold online.
That's what I was gonna do but it did finally sell by the time I had the cash.
I don't like the fact BK is basically manipulating peoples want for equality into selling some product. Unless they did this in partnership or something I missed. It's better than the Pepsi stunt at least, but I'll pass.
A simple way to compare them is to look at the ingredients. For razors it is more about the shape, however. Women's products contain way more 'healthy' shit for their skin which arguably has different needs than that of most men. For most guys I know, if it looks like shower gel, and it smells like shower gel, and it foams like shower gel, then its good enough shower gel.
Oh God Dammit. Not the pink tax again. No the price is random. Its entirely based on the fact that most feminine products have a litany of added chemicals and ingredients. That's additional cost.
The pink tax is the dumbest shit in the world. Are these two products identical, but the female version is more expensive? No. Then it's not a 'pink tax' it's a different product. Yes. Then why you dumb fucks buying the more expensive one?
