The shark was recovered unharmed
I didn't know stealing from an aquarium was an actual thing some people do. I got immediately reminded by that episode from Hey Arnold where Arnold and his grandma tried to get a turtle out of the aquarium and back to the sea.

Everything about this just ????
Why would you ever expect to take a shark of all things out of a tank and nobody notice, its not like an aquariums going to let people touch the animals with zero supervision.

The article says that they expect the shark to die, and the second article doesnt actually say he was "returned unharmed" anywhere.

The second article clearly states in the video that the shark thief's were professional fish keepers with many other (legally obtained) fish and sharks in their home. The shark is back with the aquarium and "doing well."
It's even alive and well in the video.
Well, okay. The first article made it seem like the shark was poisoned with bleach and fighting for its life, but maybe it was written before they found the shark.
That is what I originally thought, didn't even see a second article.
Minimum cost for Shark Theft Summer Camp is $24.99
