I'm kinda shook to discover that Ace Combat is anime, every picture I've ever seen of it was a meme about Pixy (no joke) so I assumed the entire series had real-life cutscenes.
Ace Combat 3 is LITERALLY anime. Done by the same studio that did GITS no less.
I mean, the lore has a spaceship jet things with plug suits and lasers.
a shame they took out all the anime in the english release.
thankfully people have fan-translated the japanese version in all it's uncut glory, including branching story missions, full anime cutscenes, and voice acting.
Small confession; when I was a wee lad and saw the Ace Combat US cover, I thought it was an American video game because it showcased a real american jet plane on the cover. Boy wee lad 'samurai was a naive boy, but then again I never bought it to see what it was. Hell my uncle, who is a total flight sim junkie was convinced with a PS2 copy in a Tupperware container somewhere. Now looking through the franchise it looks so Westaboo that I'm not sure if I was right the first time. These kind of games were not my thing back in the day, and yet I freaking loved Star Wars Starfighter so I have no excuse .
Ace Combat 7 looks dope, but I wonder if the other games are dope too.
All of them bar AH are great. If you don't want to interact with the weebstuff, just go 4 onwards.
The PS2 holy trinity (AC4, 5, 0) is definitely super dope, play them if you haven't (preferably on original hardware, but I think emulating them is alright nowadays)
I sold my PS2 long ago, and it looks like AC7 is the only one coming to next-gen.
Never tried PS emulation in my life, but there's always a first.

Playable on original hardware and everything too. Though, if you want to emulate, I recommend using epsxe with the "epsxe core gpu" renderer.
Make sure to get the latest development builds and not the stable release because the stable release is 2 years old and doesn't contain the many enhancements and improvements we got over the past couple years. Just grab whichever is presently on top here.
"Go dance with the angels" always sounded like an insult to me in the trailers. I laughed my ass off when the kid would yell it at his mother.
