I love how the US consistently elects or appoints the equivalent of Islamic imams to federal office. The biggest problem for real Americans is having to share its government with Dumbfuckistan, AKA the red states. This particular proposal isn't the most egregious offense, but I think we all know exactly what a Republican means when they talk about 'religious liberty'.
Sessions said the goal of the task force will be protecting religious groups from persecution. Gee, I didn't know Sessions was so keen to protect religious minorities like Muslims.
Sounds like someone is planning on violating the first amendment.
Doesn't this go against the whole "separation of church and state" thing?
fuck off you old fossil, do you want to turn America into the christian equivalent of Saudi?

That's been the evangelical right's plan for decades now. That's the whole reason why they're willing to put up with a president who has broken literally every commandment in the bible - he is merely a tool they are using to enact their agenda. It is not an exaggeration to say that they - not the idiots waving confederate flags - are the biggest threat to the future of the US. Because while Uncle Arsenic down in the middle of bumfuck nowhere is never going to have his dream of a neo-Confederacy fulfilled, the evangelicals may yet have their Republic of Gilead.
"where one group can actively target religious groups by labeling them a “hate group” on the basis of their sincerely held religious beliefs." Lmao
You already have a religious freedom task force. It's called the constitution and judiciary.
these people effectivley just want Christian Sharia
can't wait for all the minority groups out there like hindus sieks and muslims to file complaints with them and see how they react. while its patently clear they're only doing this for christians, they're just one judge away from being forced to use this taskforce to defend people trump and his base absolutely revile
God bless Y'allqaeda
The only reason Christians are ever persecuted in the US is because there are dumbfuck bigots in office like this that give us all a terrible name.
Reminds me when Christan groups fought to allow Bibles in hotels and won, only to complain when they realized other religions could put their books too.
Didn't the same thing happen with religious teaching in schools too?
Not once have any of these people actually put more than one brain cell into their ideas to see how it can backfire for them. It’s absolutely pathetic how people can be that stupid.
I can't wait to find out how Sessions is going to use this to separate children from their families.
He doesn't even need to do so. Just saying that they're brown is enough
Catholics used to be persecuted for pretty stupid reasons, but most people don't seem to give a fuck about them anymore.
Reading the speech, he briefly mentions verdicts against attacks on mosques. I wonder, would he sincerely stand up for the religious freedom of Muslims?
Time for another crusade, I guess.
Every last American citizen should read American Theocracy by Kevin Philips. It's an extremely in-depth analysis of the intersection within American politics of oil-driven foreign policy, radical fundamentalist Christianity, and the overtaking of manufacturing by the FIRE sector (finance, insurance, real estate) as the dominant share of our GDP. Long story short, it predicts the rise of an increasingly Christian authoritarian government due to "end-times" catastrophes such as coastal flooding and economic crashes, which are exploited by politically active religious institutions such as the Southern Baptist Convention, and exacerbated by political corruption driven primarily by Wall Street special interests. Overall it's a very dry read, filled with about 50% raw statistics, 40% analysis that at first seems only vaguely relevant, and 10% explosive revelations that tie everything together and make trudging through the other 90% worth it. It's also an excellent historical document because it was published in 2007, near the end of the Bush presidency but before the election of Obama. Most of Philips short-term predictions have already come to pass, and his long-term predictions are terrifying. Do yourselves a favor and read it.

The best part is that Trump is the literal embodiment of the seven deadly sins. Pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth.

They'll be in the fuckin' grave before too much longer, and the rest of us can rebuild.
There's nothing stopping the coming generations from being just as stupid if we don't fix up our education systems and fight against the right wing's information warfare.
what a world for us meek to inherit, devoid of flora or fauna, blighted by ruined concrete wastes, polluted by industrial cocktails of poisons and mutigents, ravaged by global climate change. ya the bible and many of these right wing nuts believe the earth is some static eternal thing that we just ride on, in fact its very much changing
The Kochs and other magnates who researched climate change in the 70s and hid it are perfectly aware of that, they just do not care.
