While I appreciate electric cars in general I feel like the lack of sound really takes away from the experience. Especially when drifting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_xTY4QJPwI
I don't really know where he's getting the whole "1.4 seconds faster than lap record" from. There's guys with Corvettes easily running 1:18 on that track. Pretty sure this Model 3 isn't stock, the whole suspension has been replaced as well as the brakes. I guess it still falls under the production car class, and apparently Corvettes, BMW M3's, Audi R8's, Nissan GTR's, most Porsche's, all Lotus's and Dodge Vipers are prohibited in the production and street car class. So it's just a class for production cars without the really fast non-super sports cars. 1:18 is a very respectable time, but claiming a lap record seems a bit weird. Even more so when the actual lap record is held by these guys in a Nissan 350z.
He's going off of this I believe: http://cscs.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/CSCS-Time-Attack-Records.pdf It's a record for "Production RWD". Will be interesting to see what the proper performance Model 3 can do.
I guess it's a record for a yearly event? I don't think these records are based on a lot of laps, there's such large inconsistencies in time. On the traditional layout the AWD car beats FWD by 3 seconds, yet on the other layout it is beaten by the FWD by more than 7 seconds. Cherry picking the records isn't exactly fair. My '78 Kadett is an extremely fast car, it can beat the Nordschleife lap record by 6 minutes. And by that I mean the record set by the Trabant P50 in 1960.
Considering there's some 2016 entries on there I think it's not just year specific. Best single lap time counts and that's it I think.
Calling a Tesla, even a model 3, "non performance" is silly. It's a performance car. It has all of its torque available immediately and can do 0-60 in 3 seconds. This car clearly has several suspension modifications and is running aftermarket (and probably much more lightweight, they're a smaller diameter than stock) wheels/tires. The title of the video doesn't even claim it's not a performance car, why would you title the thread that? The real impressive thing here is his clean lines with an open diff, that's about it.
not really that impressive, nor is it performance, at all. Basicaly, because you're trying to call it performance just because it can do extreme times vs petrol engines, which is like comparing apples to fish. The Tesla Roadster IS a true performance car. Better yet, the ZOE e-sport concept IS a performance based electric car. It has the real deal. Weight savings, sports chassis, beefed up power, you name it. The model 3 is as much of a performance car as a 3 series with a slightly more powerful engine is. And fyi, driver aids.
According to the description of the video, they've disabled as much of the assistance as possible while retaining ABS. However, after googling it, Tesla is developing a Model 3 Performance (literal name of the car), and this is a regular Model 3, so I was incorrect in my original statement, and it explains the thread title. But I'd still call anything that can do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds a performance car, even the regular 3 has some pretty impressive skidpad results. .93g's with 19"s on stock suspension? C'mon man.
As you've realised now, the title references the car name. 0 to 60 is only officially 5.2 iirc but people have got 4.6 out of it. Tesla's naming scheme is P (If performance) Model Name or battery size D (If AWD) e.g P3D. This is just a 3.
