I already have headphones, but I'm looking for some quality earphones for when I go out.
Price doesn't really matter as long as it's reasonably priced. If possible I'd like one with very neutral frequency response, not like Beats where they're usually biased towards low frequencies.
the AKG earbuds that come with the S8+ are pretty absurdly good, however there are a ton of scam mimics out there so I don't even want to bother replacing my own
I have the Xiaomi Piston 3, used for a good while before I got my Bluetooth earphones (I use them for podcasts and music while outside).
Not the best you can get, but they're very good in my opinion.
Piston 3 are good as a low budget option. Moving further up the RHA MA750 and Shure SE215 are good low-mid range earphones - the RHA is flatter but all the people I've recommended the SE215 to have enjoyed them (one upgrading from the AKG ones that come with the S8).
I can't recommend the Final E2000 enough. It's around 45$ on Amazon. Very neutral and balanced signature compared to others at the price range. I used to have a pair of Sennheiser Momentum in ears (which I bought for around 100$) and I've stopped using them because the E2000 was such a great performer.
My ATH-M50X are by far the best headphones I've ever had. I didn't even have to tweak EQ settings. They're a little expensive being about 150 USD, but it comes with a short cable, long cable, 'phone cord' cable, and a 1/4" jack adapter. Pair it with something like a modmic to put on it and you've got a headset that beats the pants off of most other 'gaming' headsets.
For a question like this we need an idea of budget.
There's good quality options "for the price" at pretty much any price.
What sort of music do you tend to listen to, any preference as to physical style (Earbud vs Earphone vs IEM)?
Zero Audio Tenore. The Japanese don't fuck around.
For budget it doesn't really matter as long as it's worth the money, but realistically I don't think I'd buy anything more than $300.
For the music I'm going to listen to, it's not really a matter of that, it's more that I want whatever I listen to to sound as accurate as possible. If there's such a thing as monitor earphones, I'd prefer those.
For physical style I prefer the earphone style out of those three, but ultimately I don't mind.
Actually I have the Shure SE215s right now, they're pretty good. I still want to explore my options.
Also thanks a lot for the recommendations guys. I'll take a closer look at some of them later.
In general, most stuff past the $100 range of good quality will tend towards the IEM format like your SE215s.
If you're happy with those, then the SE425s are of course similar but a significant upgrade in sound - and they tend more towards neutral than the 215s.
Other potential options could be the Mee Audio Pinnacle P1/PX, 1More Quad Drivers or LZ A5s.
Right at the top of your budget there's the Massdrop Plus universals which are pretty top-tier for their price and would suit you.
<3 my Shure SE846.
Shure SE215, absolutely worth it
the etymotic ER4 family is excellent and does exactly what you're wanting. neutral sound is etymotic's modus operandi. their MC5 is one of the best budget IEMs out there (highly recommend those if the ER4s are too expensive), especially if isolation is a concern. ER4s are made in the USA also, if that matters to you, and etymotic research literally invented the IEM, so that's pretty cool too. if you have questions about the many ER4 variants i'd be happy to help.
They're not AKGs. They're 'AKG tuned.' Sad reality is they're actually just Samsung headphones.
I have an S8+. Thought it was too good to be true and I was right.
Gonna struggle to fit those in your ears buddy.
he has very big ears
