Ubuntu Server Won't start ":GMOD_SpewBufferFlush"

Ubuntu 18.04

After many months idling I updated my gmod server. And now it won't start at all.. I simply get the message:

failed to dlopen /ssd2/SteamCMD/Steam/steamapps/common/GarrysModDS/garrysmod/bin/server_srv.so error=/ssd2/SteamCMD/Steam/steamapps/common/GarrysModDS/garrysmod/bin/server_srv.so: undefined symbol: GMOD_SpewBufferFlush

I have done my best to make sure i'm not missing anything.. i've verified. Even tried purging the installation and starting again but no matter what I do I get this message. If anyone can assist... I've bbe so very very grateful and from what I can see searching the net.. It might help someone else out too.
