Grand Theft Auto V prepares to cross another huge milestone as it is set to become one of only three games that have sold 100 million units. Four years and 10 months after Rockstar
Games took gamers back to the mean streets of Los Santos, the fifth main installment in the Grand Theft Auto series continues to defy expectations.
Earlier this year, Grand Theft Auto 5 had sold 95 million copies and has carried on being a staple of the gaming charts ever since. With Grand Theft Auto V already becoming the most
profitable entertainment product of all-time, Rockstar is in no rush to bring out a new title. This means that the gap between Grand Theft Auto V and VI is the longest since the
franchise started back in 1997.
Rockstar's parent company Take-Two announced its financials for 2019 (via Variety) and revealed that Grand Theft Auto V has "outperformed" expectations. Take-Two CEO Strauss Z
elnick put emphasis on the fifth main series title in the long-running Grand Theft Auto series as a key part of the company's success:
Although Grand Theft Auto V hasn't sold as many units as either Minecraft (144 million) or Tetris (170 million), it is still a giant of the video game industry. Considering Grand Theft
Auto V was the No.3 bestseller in the US during June, there's no surprise that it has edged closer to the elusive 100 million club.
While it's not the best Grand Theft Auto i've played, and putting aside Rockstar's treatment of the game and it's players..
It's still an amazing feat, that few games ever hope to achieve.
They should've just made GTA:O free to play at this point considering shark cards are the main money maker.
Fucking sucks a full priced game has online that's structured like an F2P game
I regret buying GTAV.
gta5 was amazing but gtao has been massively fucked over
I don't regret it because I've had some good times in it, but I'm afraid to play it again after it started random banning me. I've even moved OS since then but I'm still paranoid it'll perma me if I tried.
The campaign is still great; but the online portion is the biggest letdown in several ways despite having some great content hidden inside it.
Wonder if skyrim has hit that number yet if you were to add up all the releases of it?
Still waiting for the bomb to drop regarding RDR2's mutliplayer mode. We have a virtual guarantee micros are going to be in the game - the only question is how bad they will be. If they're literally shark cards under a different name, and the multiplayer is likewise a hit, you can say goodbye to any chance of a quality single player expansion.
Im 5 of those sales haha. I have over 500 hours into GTA Online with my friends. And before someone tries to call me out, no, none of us have ever spent a dime on shark cards. We still have a blast in Online after all these years.
Todd needs to step it up, only 30 million copies sold as of 2016

Don't give them any ideas.
I bought three copies, one for the 360, one on PC, and one for my brother on PC. I got some hours out of it, not as many as I'd liked though. GTAO just isn't my thing, much rather preferred dedicated TDM clusterfuck servers like what we got with VC/SAMP, those were fun.
I still found GTAV itself was kinda boring, the environment was nice but the characters and story were uninteresting. Such a vibrant, living world and for what? Oh, right... shark card farming.
Think I'm just bored with the formula at this point. Also Take-Two can eat shit.
I'm still pissed it never got at least ONE single player expansion. I know the reason for it, but it's still disappointing to see such a detailed world go unused outside of a couple of missions.
Made even more disgusting by the fact they first teased and promised single player content was on the way after the game launched.
I wonder how much skyrim has sold
I wonder if I should have read the whole thread before writing my own post.
Thanks I would never have known smurfy was replying to my post if you hadn't replied to my post with his reply to my post in your reply to my post.
I wonder how many of them are alt accounts of people who hack in GTAO.
im honestly surprised there hasnt been a switch port at this point
GTA:O is one of those things that is best enjoyed with friends. If you go it alone, it's not gonna be all that great. The single player campaign was great though, loved it to the very end.
Maybe next time you get an erection at the teaser trailer with the nostalgia music and quick cuts and the coolkid current year filters and that one actor everybody likes saying that one thing, you'll punch yourself in the crotch until you can see actual unrestrained gameplay.
That's the thing though, the gameplay is fun. What we weren't expecting was every content update to be locked behind a massive grind.
Well deserved. GTA V is a brilliant technical accomplishment.
Personally I thought GTA IV was a better game in almost every way but you can't deny GTA V is one of the most diverse, interesting and broadly talented games ever made. Its accessibility compared to GTA IV was a master stroke sales-wise.
Say what you want about the grind of GTAO; the fact that they're still adding massive content updates for free is praise-worthy imo. I still enjoy it.
Uh, what? Are you projecting or something?
Those updates should have been released to SP aswell, which is the only part of the game that is truly enjoyable.
nah 27x is just incapable of enjoying anything every and makes sure that nobody else is allowed to enjoy things either.
Watching paint dry is one of those things that is best enjoyed with friends as well, it's not indicative of how well the game holds up on its own.
I dunno, that's a pretty shoddy argument. If a game is meant for co-op gameplay it seems a bit dumb to judge it "on its own", I wouldn't enjoy Payday, Left 4 Dead, or Killing Floor if I was only playing by myself without other people but that doesn't mean they're poor games "on their own". I personally do think GTA:O is geared towards groups of friends rather than for individual gamers, so I think that should be taken into account
