UFC president Dana White held the best for last on Friday at a news conference to announce the promotion’s fall fight schedule.
After the event was finished, White pulled a move out of late Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ bag of tricks and said one more thing.
He then showed a video that announced lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will defend his championship on Oct. 6 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas against former champion Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 229.
It figures to be the biggest fight in UFC history and has a chance to become the first MMA match to hit two million in pay-per-view sales.
McGregor’s return was cleared when he pled guilty to a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge in New York last month regarding an incident prior to UFC 223 in Brooklyn when he threw a hand truck at a bus on which Nurmagomedov was seated.
The bout will pit the two most dominant lightweights against each other, the past champion who never lost his belt against the unbeaten champion who succeeded him.
It will be the first MMA fight for McGregor since he knocked out Eddie Alvarez in the second round at Madison Square Garden in New York on Nov. 12, 2016, to win the lightweight title and become the first UFC fighter to hold two weight-class championships simultaneously. McGregor went into that fight with the featherweight title.
It will be McGregor’s first fight of any kind since he was knocked out by Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match last year.
Nurmagomedov is 26-0 and won the title that was stripped from McGregor. He is a grappling wizard and his strength plays directly into McGregor’s weakness, which is on the ground. But Nurmagomedov’s weakness is his striking, and McGregor is one of the UFC’s finest strikers.
It kinda pisses me off the slap on the wrist Conor got for throwing that dolly. Imagine if Ray Borg had thrown that dolly and injured Conor? Ray's career would be over. As for the fight himself this one has been a long time coming and can't say I'm not excited to see if Khabib can get a takedown and "smesh" Conor.
Can't wait to see this. I think there's a decent chance for an upset. Khabib is riding on a wave of hype from mauling 26 people in a row, looking invincible all the while, but if anyone's ever gonna beat him, McGregor would be one of the people who could do it.
Khabib by smesh
McGregor by KO if he can keep it standing. Khabib's standing game got exposed the last bout he was in, and that was against someone lower in the division. The biggest x-factor here is McGregor's takedown defense imo
ingenuously dumb post.
Mcgreggs vs Kebab look forward to it
the logic you used was absolutely retarded. There is a difference between voluntary participation in a regulated combat sport, and being an unwilling victim to assault. The shit you spewed about it being a brutal sport, by your logic, if someone was to rape a porn star, it would be less bad because the porn star is used to being fucked hard on camera.
Conor lead a bunch of goons around looking to engage in premeditated assault, and then attacked a bus full of people unrelated to the incident, injuring 2 of them seriously with one having an injury that very, very easily couldve been CAREER ENDING and/or resulting in the permanent loss of vision. But hey lads just a bit of hot head you know??
You then go on to suggest that Ray Borg would've gotten similar treatment if he had done the same thing. When Paul Daley punched Josh Koscheck after their fight, Dana White's response was to immediately fire Daley and ban him from the UFC for life. What did dana do to his golden goose who engaged in completely premeditated criminal action that resulted in 2 people entirely unrelated to his gay little beef getting injured? absolutely nothing. So dont pretend everyone wouldve gotten equal treatment, they wouldn't have. Conor gets off easy because conor = $$$$$$$$$
Argument enough for you?
you explicitly said it was ". He through some shit at a bus at some guy talking shit, cracks the window. It was definitely over the line but not that much" then you go onto to support this viewpoint by spewing nonsense about how the original UFC was brutal
once again, your logic is fucking retarded. There is a clear demarcation between voluntarily participating in organised violence, and being an unwilling victim of an assault, assault which very easily could've resulted in one completely innocent person losing their eyesight and career. What conor did was every bit as bad as people are making it out to be, and he is getting off lightly because he is a cash cow. Anyone else did this, would absolutely have lost their career.
He literally violated the law
Anyone else, not worth a quarter of a billion to the UFC, would have their career ended justifiably so over such an action.
Don't be a tool.
just cause you like watching him doesn't mean he shouldn't get punished lmfao
