I am confused how this is the wayback team editing articles, and not the NYT? Isn't the whole point of the archive that it grabs it at a particular time. If the site layout changes to have a difference lead text which is picked up by twitter, or they make an editorial changes to the article, then the wayback won't pick that up until the next archive and it will keep the old one as well (it is an archive).

No they are not. This isn't even news, this is just a tweet from some conservative whining about the NYTimes. How you gathered from this that archive.org is editing archived articles is anyone's guess.
removing source quality from pd was a mistake
