Patrick Stewart to Reprise 'Star Trek' Role in New CBS All Acces.. https://cdn1.thr.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/scale_crop_768_433/2018/08/picard_0.jpg The actor will reprise his 'Next Generation' role as Jean-Luc Picard more than two decades after the syndicated favorite wrapped its run. Patrick Stewart is boldly going where he has been before. As has been rumored for months, the actor has officially signed on to star in a new Star Trek series for CBS All Access in which he will reprise his role as Jean-Luc Picard. The new series will not be a reboot of The Next Generation but instead is being described as an exploration of the next chapter of Picard's life.

This could make CBS access worth it.
At least one of the writers on this has experience writing for the 24th century, at least in novel form, so that should be interesting.
I pray to god the tone is different than Discovery, I have faith in P Stew to bring a certain base line of enjoyment to most things, but I couldn't stand the first season of Discovery.
god please let it be good don't fucking squander Picard on some awful tripe akin to Star Trek Discover-The-Off-Button
Season 2 of DSC looks like it is going has a different tone.
No
I won't judge the season by the trailer, but the trailer was awful. So at very least, I am not excited for the next season.
yeah, DSC doesn't need many more viewers, the Panel had Comic-Con was packed, the Panels at Star Trek Vegas this last week or packed, the line up for autographs there for the actors was as long as the ones for the actors from the other series.
a war that lasted a season and barely was on screen, seriously, the entire first season was a waste of bloody time. except for the mirror universe stuff which was fun only because evil stab universe is always fun.
The people who hate it are the vocal minority.
Can't go saying that without any actual proof.
Sorry.
There are plenty of shows that get a second season, that's hardly a sign of success.
tuskin once again comes to the defense of anything that people may dislike despite said people having valid reasons for doing so
I'd say the amount of fans attending panels about the show shows success.
Has Kurtzman ever said whether he watched other Star Trek shows or Star Trek at all / whether he liked it even? I remember JJ Abrams saying on the Daily Show that he didn't even like Star Trek at one point. I guess I just have this feeling, I don't know if it is justified or not, that companies keep giving Star Trek to people who either don't care about it or whose knowledge of Star Trek ends with the Original Series.
Either way, I'm super hype for a continuation of Trek, means i can drop Discovery like rock in the ocean because it's not the only thing keeping Trek alive anymore.
Kurtzman is a self admitted fan, yes.
I think it was really good as did my dad, most people like it no one actually seems to have any valid reason as to why they hate it lol
I mean plenty of valid criticisms exist, I'm not sure what you are trying to say here. No show is perfect, certainly not Discovery.
Ehhh. Hyped for Patrick Stewart but that really doesn't mean anything if there isn't writers behind him that understand why fans consider Picard so great.
Patrick Stewart is also listed as a producer on the series.
oh yeah one of the geniuses behind the masterfully written Into Darkness is helming this what a fantasic choice
I wonder if they're consider bringing back Shatner somehow with some time travel bullshit so they can kinda redeem ST Generations. I know Kirk died Generations, but they can always come up with some shit to bring him back.
They could do that Shatner did in his books and use Borg tech to revive him.
What the hell this is the first I'm hearing this. Do you remember which book it was because that idea sounds pretty sick.
I've never read them, but Shatner wrote a whole alternate canon nicknamed the Shatnerverse.
Yeah and every novel after that just outright ignored them lol
