• Server Owners and Their Special Rules

Special Rules I've come to vent when it comes to the community of Garry's Mod, or more specifically ggs.sx. After telling my story, I want to discuss the fairness of the ban I was given. After laying around today (sunday), I decided after a 3-4 hiatus of Garry's Mod, to hop back on, and enjoy some good 'ol DarkRP. I always loved the randomness, and the interactions you have with other players, and the constant grind to get to the top of the leaderboard in amount of money. The amount of ways you could build a base was phenomenal and I was always coming up with ways to create a one way door. I picked the upmost server, GGS.SX, and was amazed by the complexity of the server. It would be a lie to say it wasn't expertly coded and crafted. The server had a time limit however on the other jobs, so I donated $10 to get instant access to the other jobs. I was happy to put the money in, as I loved the gameplay of the server. I would recommend the server, but I've come to disagree with the server owner's actions against me. I had been playing on the server for around 2 hours, and I was greeted with a disconnection window, telling me I was banned forever, because of detection of hacks in my client. Me, having not played for 3-4 months, was confused as I hadn't touched hacks for years. I will concede that I have touched cheats in the past, and I don't continue to do so. So naturally, I start looking for help in the server steam chat group for help, and I'm immediately being called a hacker, and being given snarky replies. This slightly infuriated me, so I headed to the server's website, and applied for a ban appeal. Quickly, the owner replies with the logs of the ban, which were legitimate, and a snarky YouTube video clearly meant to spite me. I looked into the rules, and it said that they only ban if the user "uses" hacks. It was a technicality I wasn't aware of, I respectfully asked the owner either change the rules on the rule page, or drop the ban, as I had not "used" any hacks. I acknowledge that cheating is bad for everyone, and I can understand partly why the owner banned me. It's fact that I hadn't touched hacks that entire day. Should I be banned for it? DO NOTE THAT THE OWNER DID REFUND THE $10 I know this looks very incriminating, but am I deserving of what I was given? He didn't even consider dropping the time of the ban from permanent to something shorter. Are the files in my lua/bin file automatically ran when Garry's Mod starts? I had discussed this with the owner afterwards in a Steam chat, respectfully, and trying to voice my opinion on the matter. He listened to what I had to say, we have a back and forth, but he finally responded by saying that I'm wasting his time on technicalities, and that I should concede that I was hacking, and leaves the chat. I believe that I should be unbanned because I hadn't used them on the server, it's that simple. Not only am I banned, but I'm ridiculed by people in the community. This as an example, >be creamcheese >donate to the server then loads hacks >expects heavy to change hack rule policy because he donates, omegalul I hadn't loaded any hacks, nor had I even remembered them. You can see the console logs in the ban appeal. I gave all the evidence I needed to at least be given a reduced ban time. You can also see the chat in my post on their website, and another user of the community, replies back with nothing but contempt. CreamCheese Hello? Is there an admin reading chat right now? @Heavy Bob Hey, are you online? @Vawяiss ✔ Are you online? Vawяiss ✔ it says "online" what do you think CreamCheese Well, Heavy Bob is apprently online, but his profile says otherwise. Anyways, I'd like to figure out what happened with my ban. Was banned about 5 minutes ago automatically by the console for "hacking". Haven't touched hacks at all. What do I have to do to prove myself. This is fucked. Just donated about an hour ago. Vawяiss ✔ 21:02 yes you have, heard this shit a thousand times. CreamCheese 21:03 @Vawяiss ✔ I'm sure you have, by skids, but I swear to god I didn't touch any. What do I do? @Vawяiss ✔ I'm not kidding. What do I do? Vawяiss ✔ 21:03 make a thread in bans so gforce can pull up the logs and make fun of you ggs.sx CreamCheese 21:04 @Vawяiss You're telling me that I just donated, and instantly started hacking. @Vawяiss ✔ Could we talk in voice channel? @Vawяiss ✔ Maybe have a conversation? @Vawяiss ✔ I'd also like to see logs, to see what it detected. @Vawяiss ✔ Because your system is messed up. Vawяiss ✔ 21:05 so you are telling me you are the first false postive? CreamCheese 21:05 @Vawяiss ✔ That's 100% correct. @Vawяiss ✔ Not kidding, there's not much I can say. Vawяiss ✔ 21:06 make a thread not my job. CreamCheese 21:06 @Vawяiss ✔ I'm not recording the time of my ban. @Vawяiss ✔ oh my lord @Vawяiss ✔ Okay, thank you. @Vawяiss ✔ What do they check? Because I'm honestly curious to see what it detected. Vawяiss ✔ 21:06 you would like to know CreamCheese 21:07 @Vawяiss ✔ Yes, because it better be legit, otherwise your system is broken. I was driving down the road and instantly banned. Obviously, because of this incident, I've cleaned out my gmod directory of anything remotely "hacky". It's this bandwagon of hate that pushed me to make this post, to see if I'm at least thinking on the right path here. The owner seems to be quite knowledgeable, and I respect his decision, but I honestly disagree with the decision. Does anyone else have stories of bitchy DarkRP servers, and or unfair rulings. I'm just so infuriated, and annoyed that my Sunday has been reduced to nothing but complaining, and typing my feelings onto a keyboard. The owner believes that I'm nothing but ungrateful, and entitled. I'm thankful I was given the $10. I should just get over it and move on to another server, but its these special rules that owners bring up that ruin even the best servers. I know that owners of servers can do what they want, it's their rules, but am I in the wrong here? Maybe I'm just overthinking it. What do you think?
he owns the server he can do what he wants with it lmao do the generic thing every disgruntled player does and form your own community to spite them
I think you should probably just stop playing gmod if this is a problem for you Not only is it their server to ban people on but you also technically did have hacks installed. You've even admitted it. The fact that they've refunded you means they've 100% covered their own asses. It's a game full of dumb asshole kids. You're getting what the community is full of. Well shit, now you've really done it now buddy. FP has nothing to go with these servers, now you've just spread it here. You weren't actually supposed to follow that advice, you know. No shit. Really answering your own question here. Are you really now?
It's not that it's a problem, just an eye opener for me, especially with what I do with my money. One thing I disagree with however is that the owner claims I was hacking. Like, exploiting the game, which isn't the case. They weren't even executed, take a look at the console in the ban appeal link. What would've you done if you were the owner is this scenario?
Easy. Ban you and be done with it.
Thanks for this, kinda straightened my backbone a little.
The fact that you had inactive cheats on your client says to a server owner that you're willing to exploit the server, even if you haven't used them yet. You've used them before. I ban people who have esps and shit whether they're active or not. Stop being a baby about getting caught with cheats, nobody has to tend to your dirty diaper but you.
I didn't think I'd cause such an uproar. I'm not asking for help, but rather, opinions, believe it or not. Interesting however, the levels of empathy we have on the internet.
There's no uproar here, my dude. No one cares. At least when you have hacks saved in gmod change the name to something innocent so you hide them, that's how I always got away with it.
You are what is wrong with this game. You spend $10 then get yourself banned, then because you spent the $10, think you have some leverage to get yourself unbanned. You spent this $10 with the intent to get the cool new shiny jobs to be better than everyone else who is playing the game. You even said it yourself, the constant grind to get to the top of the leaderboard in amount of money always coming up with ways to create a one way door. combined with the fact that you had and used the hacks at one point, you don't want to play the game, you want to be above everyone. You wanted to rise to the top so badly that you haggled the owner and tagged a staff member fifteen times to get their attention to try to get the ban lifted. So in short, the owner is right to say that you are entitled. Maybe not ungrateful, though.
The amount of money I spent didn't get me much more than what any free player could get. I just wanted to enjoy the different jobs when I was playing, without a time limit. The $10 was evidence for myself being somewhat invested in the server, I believed it could show I had ill intentions when joining the server. However, when I donated $10, I didn't expect to be banned, as I didn't even realise that those files existed in my gmod folder. Donating wasn't to make myself better than anyone else. If I really wanted to do that I would've spent $100 to get the highest tier donator package. It's a Sunday night for God's sake, I just wanted to play gmod again and have fun. I tagged the staff fifteen times because stated previously, I had invested money into the server, and was promptly banned with little to no reason, and I was keen to get back on. I don't think it's entitlement to want to play the server. It's entitlement to demand for an unban when you intentionally hack and play it off as if you didn't. Which was not the case.
Getting banned for just having unloaded cheats on your client is possibly the dumbest thing I've heard in a while. Though as most people have already said, it's their server so they can do what they want with it. The owner refunded your donation after your ban (which they didn't even have to do) and left it at that so that they have no financial obligations to you and you don't get to claim "I gave you guys money so I should be unbanned.". Honestly, this is going to go nowhere just move on, you got your money back and that's all that really matters. Sure you don't get to play your favourite server but they're not going to back off. Bringing it to FP is probably going to get you ridiculed about more, I can already see it.
lol that server is just a darkrp clone with worse features
