Had to really shorten the title due to the character limit. NASA released an "open source" version of the rover for everyone to build today, on Curiosity's 6th birthday

TIL I have the same birthday as the curiosity rover. Huh, surprised I never realized, especially after hearing so much about it over the years.
I can't believe its been that long
wild, another six year old using facepunch
Now I can finally build my own!
The Open Source Rover offers a more affordable, less complicated model, and according to agency officials, people can assemble the new model with off-the-shelf parts for about $2,500.

For the naming competition, you have to be from Europe to enter.
“In a nutshell, there is no scientific gain from the rover playing music or singing ‘Happy Birthday’ on Mars.” Doing so uses power, of which the rover’s nuclear battery has a finite supply. Technically, singing “Happy birthday” to itself only hastens Curiosity’s demise.
I mean, yeah through part wear, but this makes it seem like they are draining the nuclear battery faster, which isn't how that works.
But you're still in Poland, which by default means you cannot into space.

Oh boy can't wait to see what goofy names appear.
Good, it's on GitHub and has PR support.
I can't wait for some guy with an anime profile picture that's cropped hentai to submit some patch that makes the rover do a backflip or whatever.
