I've entertained this notion a lot, at least until I remember that it's just a massive logistical and legal nightmare. Plus it'd be weird to have one giant liberal country divided between the west and the east, with a giant conservative country sandwiched in the middle. But really, there are so many differences between different regions in the US that we almost need two governments. One that operates on sanity and concern for other people and the environment, and one that operates on...whatever the heck is wrong with these people. Honestly it'd be interesting to just watch the red society collapse while the blue country carried on like normal.

I'm the kind of person that sees something like Fox News as an actual weapon at times, propaganda of the highest degree that actually causes legitimate tangible problems in this country. Guarantee the Republicans would be throwing the mother of all shit fits if this headline was several years ago and had read "43% of Democrats Want to Give Obama the Power to Shut Down Media". They (the 43%) don't care about benefiting the country, or even themselves anymore. Only about benefiting their own party. Imagine being so blinded by your hatred for people you don't even know because people on TV tell you they're bad people. Now imagine being so hateful that you think their opinions and media that counters your own ideals needs to be shut down. Imaging being consumed by this that you are willing to give over power to someone who would use this power against you just so you can feel superior about shutting some people down for a short period of time. You don't have to agree with people or even believe in what they believe in. But you have to have a fundamental respect and understanding how important freedom of the press is. Our media, our political system, and other factors doing a good job pitting us against each other. Fuck, we're willing to strip rights away from our own fellow citizen. The system doesn't have to do it by force, people are willing to let it happen.
