Can you only view the source once before its deleted?
Code's still up ;)
I just went through it. It's anything but interesting. As far as I can tell it's the sourcecode of It's mostly just header files, camera state machine, some a/b code,

Pretty much, it's been on github for a few months apparently, this is what the repo looks like now

Damn, I wish it was the Android source so that we could really see just how shitty their CEOs bitch fit with Android users is.
Nothing like taking screenshots of the viewfinder for snaps/videos. Then perpetuating the masturbatory "Omg you have an Android? Get an iPhone"/"Your pictures look like they were taken in 1880".
It's pretty easy to find mirrors of the code. I could post mine if a mod allows it.
can someone make a better snapchat with this source code please?
isnt it true instead of accessing the camera directly, they literally record the video feed from the camera to display again?
if you think someone will DCMA the forum (does happen) to remove the link. Then that's going to be a no
A lawsuit waiting to happen..
Yeah. Rather than using the camera (or camera 2 now) API they just take a screenshot of the screen as it displays the camera. I think the exception is the Pixel 2 XL, but I'm not certain.
aww shit it's the ios code
if it was the android, i would bless that person who fucking adds the damn camera API
It's next to useless. The Snapchat app isn't difficult to replicate on a technical level.
You mainly need funding for the server infrastructure (or make it distributed, but then you can't monetise it as well, so you don't often see that outside of activist projects even through it's very feasible now).
https://sensorstechforum.com/snapchat-source-code-leak-github/
It's pretty much just the camera part too if it wasn't obvious. Anything around users and messages aren't in anything I have had access to
Do DCMA's count for links? Isn't the forum hosted outside of the USA?
You think the US cares? Look at all the torrent sites, they get shut down anyway.
fp does explicitly say they follow the DMCA 1998
I can confirm, Snapchat on my pixel 2 xl takes absolutely stunning pictures, almost on par with the default camera app.
Just use Instagram lol, snapcaht sucks ass
The problem isn't making a technically better app, it's getting the userbase.
I’d imagine someone could make an app that fixes the camera API. iOS has a lot of jailbreak programs that remove ads, allow you to screenshot silently, etc. Camera api addition might be more complicated than those but I’m sure someone out there could do it.
Only thing is snapchat sometimes bans accounts using third party snapchat apps. I wouldn’t be surprised if they banned android custom app users
There actually was a nice windows phone 3rd party app for snapchat but they got taken down by snapchat for infregment. The devs offered to hand over the source code to snapchat so they can make an official windows app but they refused
Of course they did. How else could they perpetuate the “lmao android bad quality xddddd” meme?
Considering it was a Windows Phone app, probably not in that way...
I've pretty much converted from Snapchat to Instagram because IG actually runs, works and has been optimised for android unlike SC. Also SC is an ad-fest with so much sponsored content whereas IG's are subtle and hide it all with IGTV.
You know it's serious business when the DMCA request is written in all caps.

Shit like this is why DMCA is such a flawed system. Any bonehead can fill out some blank template, send it off, and not fear any consequences.
