https://www.cbsnews.com/news/cincinnati-police-11-year-old-girl-stealing-kroger-market-shocked-with-taser/ Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac has opened an investigation. According to the department's policy, Tasers can be used on people who are at least 7-years-old.
Was there no alternative, or was this officer just an idiot?
Imagine stealing because you were abused by your parents and you're that desperate only to be tazed not saying that it's the exact thing that happened here, but what the fuck dude
Must be one strong 200 pound 11 year old.
Tasers can be used on people who are least 7 years old, that's fucking retarded, that shit needs to be changed, it shouldn't be fucking legal to be able to use a taser on a minor at all.
There can be extenuating circumstances which justify the deployment of a taser on a minor but I really doubt this is one such case.
Gonna need an example of when it's fine. I'm guessing one example would be if a minor is threatening with self harm or something?
it's one thing to tase an adult where the chance of them being an actual threat isn't unreasonable at all. and even if you fuck up, they shouldn't have booked it from an officer in the first place. it's not like they wouldn't expect to be harmed in some way, and i feel very confident in saying a taser would be much less harmful to them RELATIVELY (<-- important) compared to an underdeveloped child but what the fuck is the point of tasing an 11 year old girl who's fleeing? how weak and pathetic of a cop do you have to be to not even be able to catch up to a fucking child, let alone think it's a good idea to tase them?
Mostly when it comes to violence either at oneself or others yeah. A 10 year old waving a knife around might be a kid but he's still waving a knife around. That kind of thing is the only time I can imagine a taser being the best option when dealing with a kid. Do keep in mind as well that 16 still counts as a minor while not really being a kid and a 16 year old can definitely pose a threat without a weapon.
I thought the headline was “Cincinnati cop teases 11-year old girl...” Like “oh look at the big, tough shop lifter haha” This is uh way worse than I thought.
I'm sure there are plenty of good cops over in freedom land, but is it really so bad over there that we keep hearing about asshole cops all the time?
there's less protections when it comes to publishing crimes in progress "cop does his job admirably" isn't a headline
Because it's a staggeringly unbalanced ratio between good cops and chicken shits with a badge.
Adults are pretty hard to convince that things will be alright and a taser would be justified. But a child who's only 11 years old? They're barely learning what the world is even like at that age, it's a nice way to create a repeat offender in the later years though if you'd like to take a taser to someone who is willing to stop provided there is no threat.
I know the UK has a smaller population, but I never hear about shit like this here. American police need stricter hiring practices.
That's because we don't consider property worth tasing or shooting someone over.
are you a living, human joke?
I initially read it as "Cincinnati cop tastes 11-year old girl" The burger thread icon may have had something to do with it.
That'd be a tad mroe disturbing in my opinion.
American police forces are very decentralized in terms of government control and each state presumably has different laws about police oversight.
Why the fuck are you blaming the cop? The kid caused her own tasing by ignoring the cop, something that's a big no-no ESPECIALLY when she more than likely saw the fucking taser.
jesus christ lmao
Yeah, I too have no sympathy for 11 year olds who are totally well known for only ever making logical decisions.
"gahhh i'm too much of a fat fuck to catch this kid better TASE THEM" tasers can be deadly you know
Not to say the kid should have been tased for this, but age isn't an excuse to steal shit. I knew way before then to listen to police and not to take stuff from stores without paying for it, they're both incredibly simple concepts, even for little kids.
I'm not saying it is. The issue here is entirely the cop's response to things. It's a horrendously disproportionate response against an unarmed 11 year old girl. What jamison is doing anyways is acting as if an 11 year old kid will only ever make sound decisions despite the fact they're, y'know, freaking 11 years old. Stealing is a bit extreme even at 11 years old but kids that age make some really stupid decisions because they're still mentally developing. Many kids that age still don't even have a proper understanding of actions having consequences.
... All this is based on your parents though. I'd imagine different parents have different backgrounds and don't always teach their children good things. This is something I'm positive of since she's already smart enough to take a backpack AND a knife to deal with trouble (something only criminals who are experienced would come up with). I don't think this her fault at all if she's being forced to steal due to how low a chance she'll be given harsh consequences at her age. It's also an easy way for a parent to get free shit without putting themselves directly in trouble. I also didn't see anything about the guardians of the child getting in trouble though, so I guess they know exactly what they're doing unless new information comes out.
Seek psychiatric help
I would say that if someone can't handle a 10 year old with a knife without fucking tasing them, then that person should look for work elsewhere. Maybe look into a desk job, or take up knitting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cznNf2LUk74 Yeah, it's RT, but the video is everywhere and this is the only one that's just the raw footage that I could find. Police in the US rely far too heavily on tasers to make up for their lack of training to deal with many situations, sometimes to the point of killing people because they tase them for too long, they hit them directly in the chest or the person has a heart condition. I would not be surprised if many of them don't realize how lethal a taser can actually be. These people don't deserve a career in law enforcement.
I'll see if I can find the exact thread so I'm not just posting random shit, but I read on the bolice reddit (not that that that's the end all be all opinion on policing, far from it ) from a bunch of UK officers saying, in response to someone posting this vid as some big "Got'cha!" that these guys were incredibly lucky they ran into a guy who was all show and didn't want to commit to a fight. Heck, even watching the video as a bystander you can see a few spots where he could have gotten some stabs in if he committed to trying to take someone out.
