With worn-out clichés about the dead voting, Chicago used to be the poster child for voter fraud. But if any state is a poster child for terrible election practices, it is surely Georgia. Bold claims demand bold evidence, and unfortunately there's plenty; on Monday, McClatchy reported a string of irregularities from the state's primary election in May, including one precinct with a 243-percent turnout.
Georgia is one of four states in the US that continues to use voting machines with no ability to provide voters a paper record so that they can verify the machine counted their vote correctly.
Its beginning to look a lot like russia.
TBH it's not like the south has had a good track record on voting or voting rights to begin with. They purged the voting data right after the Moore v Jones election, they probably thought Moore would win.
take a hammer to these machines please
this is just embarrassing...
Never forget the middle finger to democracy the Republicans did in that Virginia assembly election.
Come to think of it the south and Russia share some similarities so shitting on democracy isn't too surprising
For every year and they immediately get pulled if its compromised, since these ones are 16 years old.
I'm pretty sure semi tech savy user here could crack a 16 year old machine but simply referencing exploits assosicated with its Hardware and Kernal/OS
No, really. Someone should walk in with a sledgehammer and fucking destroy these things. They're a threat to our democracy and a visible entry point for the GOP's Kremlin buddies
Let’s dial up the pickaxe guys who excavated Trump’s Star—they’re good at destroying evil artifacts!
Kinda proves correct everyone on the left who criticized Trump's big voting fraud commission, since they didn't even pick up on this, which I'm sure was entirely because Georgia is a red state and the miscounts were almost certainly in the Republican's favor.
I propose a machine that just punches a paper ballot and shaves off any hanging chads then that is fed into counter.
"Wow, Democrats are already rigging elections by busing in boatloads of illegal immigrants."
When will we start fucking doing something about this shit
When I heard about shit like this happening in Russia I thought "Our democracy is bad but at least stuff like that won't happen here"
Now we can't even trust our own fucking democratic system.
You don't even need software exploits. It is entirely possible to screw open a panel and replace a piece of hardware inside in the time it takes to cast a vote and at that point you can do whatever you want.
It really boils down to us destroying these things. When the government fails to uphold democracy, it's in the hands of the citizens. And if you can't lawfully get these things out of the country,
you can sure as hell destroy them and rack up the costs so they stop using them. Boston Tea Party style.
If you try to break them you'd likely get put on a permanent government list and tracked the rest of your life, a lawsuit may be a better idea.
Breaking should only be a last resort, yeah. This shit just pisses me off to no end. Your solution is better tbh.
States like Georgia have tried their hardest over the past 150 years to shit on democracy. White primaries, poll taxes, literacy tests, voter ID, gerrymandering, election dates, location of polling places, and
this whether intentional or not. We got several of those made illegal, gotta keep pressing and voting.
Just use hand-counting. It's fast enough and you can open it up for observation by the public.
The paper-ballot punching is an accessibility-requirement in the US, right? Not sure how Germany handles that, since we have pen-and-paper ballots.
Yeah. Whether done by law or mob, these things should be gone for good.
Honestly there should or be a mob right now, and Georgia should be begging them for mercy.
people are unfortunately too stupid to use a pen and paper ballot like everywhere else. Yes basically everyone has filled out some form or taken some standardized test before but its our way to paper over problems with technology instead of fixing the underlying issue.
