Then I learned that the Galaxy Note 9 pricing would start at $1,000 in the US for the 128GB version and $1,250 for the 512GB version (hot damn, that's a lot of storage), and it suddenly became a struggle to think about anything else.
My 64 GB Note 8 was $899 so that's actually not bad in comparison.
That S-Pen looks dumb though.
God, prices for new phones are still fucking crazy, you would think they would've gotten cheaper by now
Why make your product cheaper when you can operate on an absurd profit margin and get away with it?
64, if not 128 GB of storage should be the standard nowadays.
Considering how crazy the technology is that we can fit in our pocket, it makes some sense.
Especially since most mobile carriers allow you to make payments / lease phones like this now - as much as contracts suck, it does allow tons of people who wouldn't be able to afford the price point to stay "online"
It would be cool to see the prices of tech like this start to drop, but with how rapidly it's developing, I dunno how soon or far that could be.
Also, that's so much storage. I barely use my 64GB on my iPhone X.
Was going to say competition, but no one notices the smaller brands that are cheaper and the big brands all have overpriced phones.
My phone is almost full and I have 64 for both my microSD and my internal storage
Too bad it most definitely has a mark up for Samsung's profit.
I can see why some people might not like it, but I'd argue it serves to make the S-Pen much more visible if you put it down and are not sure exactly where it is. I don't mind it too much though.
I was a die-hard Note guy right from the first phone. I had the Notes 1-4, although have since changed to more conventional phones as it was a bit unwieldy. I think the S-Pen is a bit of a gimmick for most people, but it's nice to have for some occasions.
I mean, those of us using SD cards have had "512gb" versions for ages now and it doesnt cost $1000.
I'm loving that pencil style S pen
Prices for literally some of the highest end phones yet released... yes they're high.
Why would the prices of these ultra high end devices drop? There are cheaper phones.
No it wouldn't.
It costs 370 dollars to make the X.
High end smartphone prices are the dumbest thing ever
They essentially did a Dr.Evil

1000 DOOOLLARS
iirc Samsung and Apple have ridiculous profit margins on their phones. They really need someone to market their phones like them, with similar specs for cheaper. Should bring down the prices
That pen looks like something out of a 200$ entry level smartphone, not a premium 1k priced phone. It just looks cheap.
Im def not a apple fanboy or anything (I rock a 3y old xperia), but when it comes to apple vs Samsung it just becomes so obvious how much Samsung struggles in the design apartment, especially for their premium devices
I'd rather buy a 200-300 motorola, not gonna game on it anyway. Don't think I'll be missing much.
Yeah you know what, I just realized I really don't actually need one.
Meanwhile, my new honor view 10: 128GB of storage, 6GiB of RAM, 3750 mAh battery, £360.
Wat are you doing Samsung
The S-Pen on the Note 8 looks cheap as well, glossy plastic is gross.

The one for the Note 4 looked premium though.

For real I dig the pencil aesthetic
I'd be cool with yellow and pink.
If you're going to make it look like a pencil, make it look like a pencil.
You can also choose between a version that comes with headphones or a version with 15,000 Fortnite V-bucks
What a fucking waste of money.
Like I seriously don't understand why the absolute fuck anyone would want to spend this much on a phone, you're not buying a phone anymore.
They honestly do, just no at the flagship market.
Tons of chinese phones that also come out in the west.
The entry to middle class phones are completely fine to use and can go as cheap as $150 for something useable.
Most cheap contracts have them for free.
Well truth be told, you can use it as a "chromebook" of sorts with Samsung Dex. For someone who only needs basic things like browsing and Office, I can see the appeal of these devices:

For one, you no longer have to dock your phone into a separate device. DeX mode will simply turn on when you connect an HDMI to USB-C adapter to the Note 9 and any monitor. This time around, Samsung is aiming for a second-screen experience with DeX instead of trying to mimic a desktop. The Note 9 still functions normally in this mode, and you can launch an app to use it as a trackpad and virtual keyboard with the monitor. The idea is that you can use the extra screen to play a video or presentation while using the phone as you usually would.

Several of the gaming sites I peruse always bemoan how expensive hardware upgrading is, and virtually to a man or woman the people complaining the loudest about their potato computer or how this graphics mod breaks their framerates bah god as mah witness in half are invariably posting from an iphone or Galaxy why their $300 laptop or i3 + $100 amd gpu can't run ____.
Every fucking time.
My Xiaomi was 200 euros and not only am I very satisfied with its performance, it still performs fine after 3 years, and it has all the features I need.
I cannot fathom spending more than 400 on a phone, I just don't understand what you're getting for the extra price. The cheaper phone doesn't perform noticeably worse for the average user, it does the same things and the expensive phone is crammed full of gimmicky features you're gonna use once or twice, or ones that are always on until you realize how annoying/battery consuming they are and just turn them off.
I realize this may very well just be my difference but I don't understand what the high end userbase is doing more than taking photos, browsing social media and youtube, making calls or googling how to cook shepard's pie or something. It's not like a computer where, for a low spec one, you can feel how cheap it is every second you're using it, phones in the $200 range are fast enough even during multitasking that I don't notice the difference.
I love my Note 8, but I don't think a whole ton of people should get Notes. They fill a very specific niche and it's weird to see Samsung market it as a flagship.
