Hello there, I know there are many modded servers out there that offer a more casual rust experience, but ive noticed a lot of them are only one or two week wipes, dont update that often and have buggy plugins as well.
A lot of fps games like battlefield and cod have two versions of their game a standard version and a hardcore version. I think a lot of people are looking for a more relaxed version of rust considering there is no other game like rust out there. There is a lot of people that enjoy pvp like myself but dont like to be offline raided and kos'd constantly.
Also in the next few years there are going to be a lot of games like fallout 76 and more that are going to really put a dent on the player base for rust. I think that in the casual version there should either be places on the map that cant be raided or pvp without consent like how runescape did it with the wilderness. Either that or allow at least one building with a TC for each player that cant be raided. So lets say i make 4 bases I can have one building be my hq that cant be raided but the other bases can be. maybe put a limit on how big your hq base can be so people cant store 100% of their loot there and be invincible.
idk i just think that rust is the first of its kind but there will be many more that come along and will cater to casuals and hardcores both and rust could potentially be left in the dirt over the years. I like pvp and raiding to a certain extent but lets all be honest here the official servers are just insane. they are pure chaos to anybody that isnt tuned in to that play style. unless you are in a clan or you play rust at least 8 hours a day you arent gonna make it. And thats fine for those that enjoy it I would just like to see some official servers that show the other side of rust that exists on modded servers and some community servers. I dont wanna come off as a crybaby because I know thats how the players on official want to play and thats fine i just would like more options for rust and i think rust has great potential that hasnt been tapped into by the developers properly.
The problem is Rust is a game where one of the core mechanics is PvP. Raiding and being raided is literally 50% of the game. I got into a server with a few people, joined a clan and dominated said server, no bases to raid, what happened? Server died. Give raiding any more restraints and 50% of the game is flawed.
In any case, the suggestion you made about the "safe room". At first it seems a good way to release some fear and frustration in case of a raid, but think of it like this: Your main loot is safe, your base gets destroyed, over and over again. Sure the loot is safe, but it would still be frustrating.
Rust won't be dented, because it's two different player bases, a casual one and a hardcore one. If anything I think Fallout 76 will be a flop, because of all the hand holding.
If you are looking for a smoother server check modded servers or community servers with lower pop's; Roleplay servers, PvE servers, PvP dedicated zones servers, you have it all. But you will understand something by playing in them: No population, why? It's obvious :/
Taking Fallout 76 as an example, remember that it's Bethesda making it, whether people like it or not, the launch will be huge, only after a few days can we deduce it's destiny. Is it going to be bigger than Rust? Most likely. But is it going to be better? Can't say, while the genre is the same, the in-game mechanics change it so much they're going to be two completely different games, so you can't compare them equally. Is Rust going to survive? For sure. The thing is Bethesda has almost no experience in survival games, while FP has been developing Rust for years, this is enough proof of Rust's survival.
Back to topic: You can find casual servers in Rust, but they are not nearly as played as vanilla or servers like cosa nostra.
