Was gonna pre-order this, but financial troubles got in the way :/ Did quite enjoy the closed alpha.
I missed the closed alpha but I played it yesterday and fuck it's intense. It's probably going to be my go-to game for a while, at least assuming they can fix some of the more serious perf issues
I found an useful post on Reddit listing some of the new features in Sandstorm 1: Quick reload by tapping 'R' twice but lose the magazine and balance ammo in it. (great addition, saved my but a couple of times) 2: Reloading RPGs. Shit gets real 3 times more now. Great for taking out vehicles and air support helicopters. 3: Call in Air Support/artillery variety, similar to Day of Infamy but with more choices. Mortar strikes, poison gas mortars strikes, smokes artillery, Helicopter hovering support, A-10 gun run, Drones bomb run, suicide drone bombs, multiple rocket strikes. 4: Doors!! You can now open and close doors of buildings, also break them down when breaching an entry. Closing doors is great because it warns you of enemy opening it and they can't throw grenades in without opening it up first. 5: Vaulting. Basically can vault through windows, over walls, balconies, etc. As long as you are near a vaulting position, pressing 'F' vaults you over. 6: Manual cache destruction. No grenades? No problem. Approach the enemy cache and hold 'F' key to rig up an explosives with their weapons and blow it up like an IED/C4. (coop fans would love this) 7: Resupply at spawn from crates. Holding 'F' for a few seconds resupply all your bullets and explosives. Tapping 'F' only grabs one magazine at a time. Great for topping up quickly if all you need are mags. Doesn't seem to have a timer. 8: Commander and Observer class, similar to Day of Infamy mechanic. Commander can call in air strikes with their binoculars, only if the Observer class (radioman) is nearby. Also as Observer class, you basically repeat the order and can hear when the strike is coming from your radio. 9: Technicals! Basically a truck with a mounted DShK. DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA. 10: Melee. Haven't tried this personally, but you can hit someone with the butt of you rifle or pistol. 11: For coop, bot suicide bombers!! Ok maybe not new since mods introduced them in old Insurgency, but now it is official. 12: Change in grenade throwing mechanics. Holding left click is to throw far, clicking right click once, pulls the pin. Holding right click is to lob over, clicking left click once to pull the pin. (not sure why they change from previous Source one which is pretty good) 13: MINES! Never tried it, but as demolition class, you can lay a mine against vehicles. Limited use to be honest.
I'm not hearing a lot of good things about the beta. Also not really surprising that NWI still doesn't give two shits about decent character art and animation. https://i.redd.it/pwnjwst3f3f11.jpg
Yeah it's still beta 1 and the developers noted it's not a glory-beta but actually meant for measuring game performance and bugfixing. I think with the track record the developer has on Insurgency Source they'll address the major problems. Other people complain about map design or some other deviations compared to Source but that's all subjective anyways.
Everything I have seen about this after the pre-order beta went live is not good at all. Terrible performance, models and animations looking worse than the Source game. Yeah, dunno about this one.
This is literally the beta in which they're gathering data on performance issues etc. Jesus Christ is this overblown.
Absolutely. This isn't a release version and they've clearly stated the purpose of Beta 1 was to gather feedback on performance. Every development studio has a different process and this one is using the beta for performance testing as well as bugfixing. People need to stop FUD
The lack of weapon recoil and the animations in general are really making me question buying this...
What's everyone favorite gun so far? I personally really like the TEXT BLOCK https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/959716682489300912/6DBD07E134B01D1518750456391F8A44CCE3AFC1/
Focus Forums There you go Thank you all for joining us for this first phase of Beta testing so far. We greatly appreciate all the valuable feedback, and are hard at work polishing the game. From this point forward, our focus is finalization - including optimization, visual polish and important experience improvements based on feedback. One thing worth noting about the optimization of the game, is that currently we are not fully utilizing Level of Detail to simplify our environments and characters. This is because of a few issues we’ve run into, which Epic is helping us with. When we’ve addressed these issues and fully implemented LODs, there should be a noticeable performance boost for everyone. Players can expect this as well as other optimizations to be included as we get closer to release. In the meantime, we are releasing a small hotfix to address a few things which should improve your experience. Notes below. Optimization Characters who are no longer in the players view do not update their animation and bone positions. HLOD distance is now affected by the users “Effects Quality” setting in the video menu. Lower settings should provide increased performance at the cost of some minor visual fidelity. Lighting will apply to player cosmetics as a group instead of individually. Gameplay Improvements to hit validation to reduce cases of bad hit detection. Fixes Fixed a crash on Linux servers caused by character animation snapshot. Fixed an issue with shotgun pellet simulation on some pellets. Fixed an issue where cosmetic credits earned during a game were not updated correctly within the character customisation menu when first opening it. The Game will not return to the main menu with “Connection has been lost” if Steam disconnects. Updated Content Improvements to the moving lean animation. User Interface Added submit feedback button to the main menu to allow easy access to the forums. I noticed a clear improvement in FPS and reduced stutter playing just now.
Hi, NWI dev here, we've got optimization planned and in the pipe, it's pretty much the only thing we're focusing on. If all goes well the game should be running significantly better by next Beta. Also we've got the mocap data for new 3rd person character anims, they just haven't been implemented yet.
You can't see it but you can feel it. If you don't compensate you'll be shooting at the sky on your 4th bullet. The initial kick on most guns is so big that your best bet is to aim at knee level to get torso shots.
S'all cool man, I got your sentiment but you really don't want to play around with NDA's. You gotta be careful what you show before the game's done because not everybody's gonna be so forgiving when they see an unfinished product (as this beta clearly shows) btw I was the one who caught you lol
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/W8Fhm3_PwXs/maxresdefault.jpg Did you outsource the player model making to Sergey Titov & Friends?
I'm very excited to say that I'm very excited. Game looks super promising and has my preorder.
Beta 1 is now finished. AMA on Reddit tho: https://www.reddit.com/r/insurgency/comments/96z9lm/hi_were_new_world_interactive_developers_of/
open beta started today, game apparently runs like a kid with progeria in a 3 legged race.
Yeaaah its running pretty bad
Had to turn quite a few settings down to make it run properly (and even then e.g. when a cache gets blown up at some points, it chugs like Thomas the Alcoholic Tank Engine) On the plus side, I made this beautiful abomination :v https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1717/19ebe214-6bf8-4572-9b3c-bb2c9e025351/20180831004647_1.jpg
I was going to decide between this and BFV but with BFV's delay I might just grab this. The reports of poor performance have me worried though. What should I expect with an i5 4950 and a GTX 1070?
Enjoying the game, but holy shit is performance absolute dogshit rn Game doesn't look any better than even something like KF2 and it's chugging below 80 fps with frequent stutters on my 1060
Its so frustrating that companies nowadays want to focus on match making systems, instead of relying on the true, tested and perfectly functional server browser method. The same shit in TF2 is happening here; Get matched into a game on the 3rd or 4th round (Firefight), and in less than 7 minutes you're back to the main menu being forced to look for another match. I feel like I'm on loading screens longer than I am in-game. Not to mention the horrible graphical issues I'm having. I don't care about high res textures, or god ray lighting. I care about a consistent fps experience that sits on or above the refresh rate of my monitor. (144hz) Insurgency [2] had a match maker but most users dodged it by using the server browser. Which then begs the question as to why they are bothering to waste development time on such a feature. (A match maker that was added after the initial release of the game I believe) I hate to be so negative about the game, as I fucking love the sound and mechanical gameplay. (double tapping r has got to be the coolest shit) But there are a lot of issues hampering the gameplay itself and it certainly doesn't do well to see efforts from the devs in other places. I'd probably have a more positive outlook if I had the opportunity to join a server, and leave it when I'm satisfied as opposed to being forced to swap servers in a 7-13 minute duration.
I really like the new Beta so far. They've pretty much fixed all the issues with the previous Beta so far and made dual-render scopes optional. They're really cool but murder my framerate so I'm glad we can turn them off.
semi auto shotguns before release or we riot
Having tons of fun in Beta 2. The performance still sucks though, which I assume means that they didn't implement the proposed LOD system for beta 2 yet. It's likely there are still some big ticket performance improvements coming for launch so we'll have to see.
I hope they misconfigured something because the changelog seems pretty extensive and the performance is still shite.
I've got to say, this game has got hands down the best explosion effects I've ever seen.
Anyone else getting momentary freezes when looking down any sight with magnification? Gets so bad i've been sticking to x1 and RPGs mainly. Gotten real good at room clearing and helicopter smacking with the RPG :v
