The FBI has fired Agent Peter Strzok, who helped lead the bureau’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election until officials discovered he had been sending anti-
Trump texts.
Aitan Goelman, Strzok’s lawyer, said FBI Deputy Director David L. Bowdich ordered the firing on Friday — even though the director of the FBI office that normally handles employee
discipline had decided Strzok should face only a demotion and 60-day suspension. Goelman said the move undercuts the FBI’s repeated assurances that Strzok would be afforded the
normal disciplinary process.
“This isn’t the normal process in any way more than name,” Goelman said. The FBI declined to comment.
The termination marks a remarkable downfall for Strzok, a 22-year veteran of the bureau who investigated Russian spies, defense officials accused of selling secrets to China and
myriad other important cases. In the twilight of his career, Strzok was integral to two of the bureau’s most high-profile investigations: the Russia case and the investigation into Hillary
Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of State.
But when a Justice Department inspector general investigation uncovered politically charged messages that Strzok had exchanged with another FBI official, he was relegated to a
position in human resources. Conservatives soon made Strzok the face of their attacks against the special counsel investigation into the president’s campaign, and the FBI took steps
to remove him from its ranks.
Strzok’s position in the bureau had been precarious since last summer, when Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz told Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III that the lead agent on his
team had been exchanging anti-Trump messages with an FBI lawyer. The next day, Mueller expelled Strzok from the group.
The lawyer, Lisa Page, had also been a part of Mueller’s team, although she left a few weeks earlier and no longer works for the FBI. She and Strzok were having an affair. President
Trump has derided the pair as “FBI lovers,” and he and his conservative allies have pointed to their conduct in an attempt to discredit the Mueller probe. As recently as Saturday, Trump
tweeted an attack on Strzok, Page and former FBI Director James B. Comey and Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.
Horowitz concluded that Strzok showed a “willingness to take official action” to hurt Trump’s electoral prospects, particularly in a text he sent telling Page “we’ll stop” Trump from
being president.
It is possible that others could yet face discipline. The inspector general identified five FBI employees, including Strzok and Page, with some connection to the Clinton email case who
had exchanged messages expressing hostility toward Trump, support for Clinton or other political views. Each was referred to the FBI for possible violations of the bureau’s code of
conduct.
Still not enough for Trump probably, clearly the mueller probe is tainted because of the offhanded text messages of one individual.
He's probably gonna sue for wrongful termination
A decorated public servant is terminated for refusing to support treason. This is how dictatorships start.
If this is the standard for firing people now, the President should be impeached five hundred times over, and a good third of Congressional Republicans should, too.
Never mind the shitheads in the FBI NY field office, aka Trumplandia, who actively leaked (false) confidential info to Rudy Giuliani and on to the True Pundit website for the purposes of blackmailing James Comey and forcing him to announce the reopening of the Clinton email investigation right before the election.
Strzok was so willing to take official action to hurt Trump's election campaign that he did nothing except send a few texts to his workplace girlfriend. If that's supposed to be something worth being fired over, Devin Nunes has earned crucifixion and Trump should be deported to a Siberian gulag, but of course when it's Republicans doing it it's fine.
Sorry guys, Strzok worked for the FBI which itself is part of the Justice Department of the federal government. Whole thing is tainted now, only solution is to abolish the whole federal government
FBI agent Peter Strzok fired purged over anti-Trump texts
ftfy
I guess being so close to finishing the investigation they can't afford to give ammo to those opposed to it.
Truly 91-d chess.
Step 1. Get the FBI to investigate the president
Step 2. Fired anyone who is anti-Trump or anti-reality for being biased
Step 3. Get found innocent because everyone at the FBI is a loyal crony
Each was referred to the FBI for possible violations of the bureau’s code of conduct
can we talk about Trump's conduct?
why doesn't the presidency have a code of conduct?
That would be a hard sell. His tweets show that he is not unbiased in his investigation.
Having personal opinions is not bias. Everybody involved in every investigation has personal opinions.
When you're discussing bias in an investigation you need to bring up concrete actions that were taken that were not the result of proper procedure being followed, but rather being swayed by personal opinions.
Trying to frame it as "he had personal opinions so he must be fired" is a bad redirection and it's kind of absurd.
Your comment is set up where the natural inclination is for people to go "NO HE DIDN'T HAVE BIAS", to which you'd probably respond by sharing tweets that show he had strong personal opinions. In this way, you can say "see? he has BIAS!" without A) requiring a proper definition of bias or B) proving that "having bias" even means that you should be fired!
Strzok had the bad luck of having some unprofessional texts leak about a person involved in his investigation. I don't believe this was a bias that affected his job, but the FBI cares very much about their image, especially in such a high-profile, sensitive case that is already constantly being denigrated as a politically motivated witch hunt. So they took the easy option and cut him loose. It's not right, but it's not some nefarious purge by the fascists either. I hope he's compensated fairly.
This is the 3rd FBI agent Trump has fired.
fbi agents don't have a lot of recourse. what he did with the texts and having an affair with another agent was wrong, but he didn't deserve the shitshow the house committee on jumping in front of busses gave him
1) You mean the investigation he is no longer a part of?
2) he had already been disciplined for his actions with a 60 day suspension and a demotion.
Wouldn't anti-Trump and anti-reality kinda cover literally everyone though? Cause anti-reality covers Trump supporters while anti-Trump covers pretty much everyone else.
Woops, you're correct. Editted accordingly.
