Investigators concluded the current treatment of detainees at the Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Center did not meet the state’s legal threshold of abuse or neglect, according to a copy of the findings issued Monday by the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice and obtained by The Associated Press. But a top state regulator conceded in an interview that investigators did not attempt to determine whether serious allegations of past abuse at the locally run facility are true. Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam ordered the review in June, hours after the AP published first-person accounts by children as young as 14 who said they were handcuffed, shackled and beaten at the facility. They also described being stripped of their clothes and locked in solitary confinement, sometimes strapped to chairs with bags over their heads. The incidents are described in sworn statements from six Latino teens included in a class-action lawsuit filed in November and are alleged to have occurred from 2015 to 2018, under both the Obama and Trump administrations. The teens who made those initial complaints were subsequently transferred by federal authorities to other facilities or deported to their home countries. Fucking bullshit

This is the legal equivalent of reading the rules and finding every disgusting loop hole imaginable Just to enact your cruelty on kids. There really isn't a lower bar than these fucks.

Serious question here, after all that has happened already, why aren't you at least marching on these camps and rescuing these kids, it's a normal reaction to fascism imo

Agreed. I think there's something to be said for the fact that mob mentality is strong and people tend to be unwilling to go against the grain, even if there were no potential for getting arrested or otherwise stopped by the US government. It's unfortunately a fundamental property of the human condition.

Yeah but doesn't it resemble so much the mindset of the people in nazi germany a little too much? I mean ever since that incident we wouldn't follow in the same footsteps if presented with the same situation yet here we are. The way they are treating these families is what I'm quite sure amounts to some sort of crime against humanity, such as the forced drugging to keep them docile and strapping them down to chairs and beds. Isn't there a big suicide rate too? These kids are dying or leaving with nothing less than PTSD.
