President Trump’s campaign organization Tuesday has filed for arbitration against friend-turned-enemy Omarosa Manigault Newman, claiming that she broke a 2016 nondisclosure
contract by disparaging the president in her new book and revealing private talks from the ultra-secret White House Situation Room.
In New York, Trump campaign lawyers filed for arbitration to force the former star of “The Apprentice” to abide by the agreement they say she signed when joining the 2016 campaign.
According to a sample of the agreement provided to Secrets, she was required to keep proprietary information about the president, his companies or his family confidential and to
never “disparage” the Trump family “during the term of your service and at all times thereafter.”
In a statement, a campaign official said, “Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. has filed an arbitration against Omarosa Manigault-Newman, with the American Arbitration Association in
New York City, for breach of her 2016 confidentiality agreement with the Trump Campaign.”
The official added, “President Trump is well known for giving people opportunities to advance in their careers and lives over the decades, but wrong is wrong, and a direct violation of
an agreement must be addressed and the violator must be held accountable,” added the official.
In her book, Unhinged: An Insider Account of the Trump White House, and especially on her controversial book tour on TV, she has turned on her former friend and employer, calling him
unfit for office. She claimed he used racist language during the filming of “The Apprentice,” but insiders and Trump deny the claim. She has also revealed private conversations she had
with Trump and others, including from the secret White House Situation Room, a potential violation of federal law.
What’s more, she has played recordings of those secret discussions that the campaign said are covered by the nondisclosure agreement. Trump, in tweets, as called her a traitor, wacky
and nasty.
While Manigault Newman has claimed that she did not sign a nondisclosure as part of her White House work or in exchange for a 2020 campaign job that did not materialize, her
signing of the agreement during her 2016 campaign work remains in force because it is with the same campaign organization and never went out of force, said the campaign.
To be honest it would be hilarious if she never signed an NDA
fucking please be the case
I think its a lot funnier that earlier this week there was a rumor about the trump admin making aids sign NDAs, this just confirmed it.
I'm surprised it took this long. Donald loves to sue people who talk shit about him, he's been doing it for decades.
If this goes through, the discovery is going to be juicy
I wonder if the money that omarosa could make from this book would outweigh any settlement that she has to make
Is this a violation of her 1st Amendment rights? This particular bit isn't about national security or anything, it's literally the President trying to prevent someone from speaking freely about them, personally, or his family. Or does it not count if she sign because you can sign away your rights?
Apparently the White House lawyer said that the NDAs aren't enforceable aka don't hold power.
Same as with Stormy Daniels. "How dare you disclose all those untrue totally made up things! We're going to sue you for telling everyine about that stuff which never happened!"
Lowkey the scummiest thing about this that it reveals all of the following about the President:
a) believes a commonplace NDA has the power to usurp the public's right to ownership of government records - in the White House
b) emphasizes the importance of his trivial private affairs over his colossal institutional responsibilities
c) is unfamiliar with his legal obligation to transparency, and therefore:
d) implicitly has no firm grasp on the meaning of governance, is really just a big fat fuckin stupid guy
theoretically, at some point in the future, i could/should be able to FOIA request every time he's spent undoubtedly spent 45 minutes on the toilet trying to heave a solid log of of undigested fast food and aspartame
If she somehow manages to avoid this imagine how many more people are going to spill more beans.
Draining the swamp, one leak at a time.
