Tbh this case seems even stronger for him. I don't think this is a good use of our money.
All the plaintiff has to do in this case is learn from the previous ruling and they have it in the bag. The SCOTUS specifically said the previous case was only ruled on that way because of the way the prosecution conducted their case, and not to set precedent.
Is he the only baker in the area or something? Surely there is competition that could be putting him out of business with him rejecting customers like that?
The original plaintiffs against him went to a large number of cake shops until they found someone who denied them. They then sued.
The original case was open and shut because cases like that are just lawsuit bait essentially, hence why it was ruled as it was.
If an actual case can be brought and tried, that's not a bad thing, but this is clearly people targetting him for his views.
He didn't say he wouldn't sell gay people a cake either. He wouldn't make them a custom cake, which if you view food as an art, you can't compel someone to make art.
You're assuming the court handwaves the obvious entrapment.
Yeah this is undeniably just bait, and its undercutting actual problems.
It invokes memories/videos of the people who would walk up and down a street with a gun out waiting for a cop to show up so they could record the police harassing them and violating their freedom. Its just so obvious and artificial and just makes the 'victims' look like whiney assholes
I thought this case was because they were turned down after he learned they were gay, and overturned by the SCOTUS because colorado's board was seen by them as being hostile to his religious beliefs.
its a can of worms (aside from this entrapment ofc), if you offer a service or product, should you be allowed to refuse on the grounds of discrimination? Or, like an at-will state, say no because you dont wanna when the real reason was because they were black? (which was the original reason at will ever became a thing)
