Battlefield V will likely be one of the largest games Electronic Arts releases in 2018, and 2016’s Battlefield 1 even managed to attract more than 25 million players, but the latest shooter could be in trouble.
According to industry analysts, pre-order numbers should have the publisher worried about the World War II shooter.
According to Wall Street Journal reporter Sarah Needleman, the analysis firm Cowen stated that pre-orders for Battlefield V have thus far been “weak,” possibly because of its launch positioning between heavyweights Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
“Cowen says Battlefield could suffer the same fate as EA’s Titanfall 2,” Needleman added.

Analysts Worry Battlefield 5 Could Disappoint Like "Titanfall 2"..

'Battlefield V' Sure Feels Like It's About To Get Titanfall 2
Maybe it's just me, but it feels like BF1 was released not too long ago.
Perhaps they should have invested in expanding BF1 more, instead of already going for a sequel.
BF1 came out in October 2016
2 years between Battlefields has been mostly that way since BF1942.
I'd like to believe consumers are smartening up and also have fear over what the battlefront games were.
Also wouldn't have hurt not to totally fuck up a Star Wars game and then shift the entire development team tasked with fixing it onto a Battlefield project no one was asking for
The battlefront debacle combined with the release of RDR2 is probably not doing them any favors.
EA doesn't know what the fuck they're doing due to a retarded CEO and shareholders who just demand more money.
I'd like to think "weak" pre-order numbers aren't indicative of interest and it's just people being smarter about throwing money away, but it's gonna be people and their lack of interest in the game, and I doubt it's because of Battlefront II.
as beloved as Battlefield used to be to me, I'm hoping this cynical cash-grab cycle peters out and puts the franchise on hold
maybe now instead of these safe soft retreads of bf3 every other year we'll get bc3, 2143, SOMEthing more exciting
The return to a WW2 setting along with the gameplay changes is something that i would have had a big interest in, had it not been for their entire disregard for showing respect to the women who played a big role in WW2 and claiming that what they were doing meant they were on "the right side of history" by putting them in the game in a way that had absolutely no care about portraying them in a serious way that still fit the verisimilitude of the setting.
They add women to the game in a way that shows absolutely no consideration to doing so properly, but apparently anyone who disagrees with their idea of "Put them in wherever, it doesn't matter, don't put any thought into it and we'll just claim we're in the right anyway" and would prefer they were added to the game in a reasonable way is sexist?
Loads of games are projects "no one was asking for", they still tend to do well. This isn't even that out of the regular release cycle for Battlefield games.
I expect it'll still sell pretty well because the series in general does sell really well. But low pre-order numbers probably don't mean much in the current climate of digital distribution being a thing on all major platforms.
Not to mention the game itself's own controversies and ridiculous statements from their developers
TBH I don't know what I'm expecting. All I saw was a snowy Norwegian map, mostly land based combatand very little vehicular combat. Maybe show more stuff to interest me?
that title invokes a spiteful glee in me
and I love battlefield, but I'm so bitter about titanfall 2 getting shafted
It usually doesn't come at the cost of righting their mistakes and making a few more when that happens though
I think i've only seen one ridiculous thing of a dev claiming they were on "the right side of history" and not wanting his daughter to say "Why can't i play as a women in WW2?" or something like that, was there anything they said other than that which was bad?
They haven't really been promoting the game as much as the first release so it makes sense.
The first one was what I had in mind, but I was additionally talking about some silly stuff coming out of the skeleton crew at Battlefront 2's keyboards that raises some eyebrows on DICE/EA's competence for me.
There was also the part where they said "accept it or don't buy it" a bit after the "right side of history" thing and now here we are
It’s as if releasing the same games over and over affects sales????
Not surprising with the marketing campaign being nothing but a couple of bad CG trailers.
Promoting the actual game's new features & mechanics seems to have been left to Battlefield YouTubers.

I haven't purchased an EA title since Titanfall 2, tbh.
And Battlefield 4 was the last one that remotely cought my interest.
Well, yeah. I'm excited for it and all but like hell i'm stupid enough to preorder it.
It’s hilarious reading this kind of shit after they tried to derail criticism of battlefront’s lack of skins for micros over p2w upgrades with “well no one wants a pink Vader lol”
Considering DICE can't actually make Bad Company 3 because they literally cannot work out which parts of the formula hooked people in (hence why BF3, 4 and 1 are a weird mixed bag of features in places), I'm inclined to say DICE have a habit of just kinda winging it when it comes to every project they work on. They've just had the talent to make competent and enjoyable games every time. Yes, even that Shrek game.
I'm not going to hold Battlefront 2 against DICE themselves because that game was a shit show of stakeholder interference from EA and Disney. Short of being clinically brain dead or owned by Tencent I don't think a single developer would ever want to lock progression behind a paywall grind purposefully, developers play games too, they know how much that sucks.
I think it's just due to general fatigue with the series and the Battlefront 2 fiasco just making consumers more wary of EA.
Not to mention they didn't really excite people with their showing of the game at E3. It just looked like more of the same with a slightly different skin, only now it has the promise of another fatiguing subgenre being attached to it as well with battle royale.
Really gives the game an air of purely being made for marketing and business reasons.
It's a shame, actually seeing the game in action and witnessing the new gameplay mechanics sold me more on the game than any of the promotional material did by far. They're changing a lot of shit up and it's put a lot of players on edge, but watching the game being played did ease that concern for me at least.
The two people still working on Battlefront II, bless their souls, seem like good but naive people from the kind of things I've seen. They're being shafted by these cunts moving everyone to BFV and shoving the game under the rug too.
The game is in a good spot right now, it could've been better if we didn't have star cards in the first place, but as it is right now it's biggest problem is how it's moving slower than a snail's pace and with shit that is so laughably easy to implement.
Did you know skins that have worked in game with a simple code switch since launch are being spread out in multiple patches until possibly February? The last patch added Palpatine and Ewok hunt- two pieces of content that were removed by previous patches. It's really looking like getting Anakin and Count Dooku added possibly early 2019 are the last things we can expect. That is way too little and way too late.
every design choice in the game looks like it was done to make lootboxes work
BF5 releases in mid October, BF players generally aren't 100% retarded and its kinda rare to see a rabid BF fanboy like you do with CoD/Rockstar/Bethesda games, and people are wising up to preordering games these days. Add it together and surprise surprise, your preorders aren't going to look very pleasant 2 entire fucking months before release! I'm sure the game will still do fine considering its fuckin Battlefield + the lack of premium will entice some people who hated that shit in BF3/4/1.
