https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-speaks-at-defense-bill-signing-in-new-york/ President Trump touted a defense spending bill Monday named in honor of Sen. John McCain, without mentioning McCain once. Mr. Trump made the remarks at the signing of H.R. 515, the "John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019," at Fort Drum Army Base in New York.  The president has long been critical of McCain — he said during the campaign he likes people who weren't captured, a reference to McCain's time as a prisoner of war — and has repeatedly criticized the Arizona Republican's "no" vote on repealing Obamacare last year. The defense bill authorizes a total of $717 billion for military funding over the next year, including pay increases for service members. Mr. Trump often touts how much his administration is spending on the military, and, on Monday, called it the most significant investment in the military in modern history. "The NDAA is the most significant investment in our military and in our war fighters in modern history and I'm very proud to be a big, big part of it," the president said. The president visited after GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-New York, invited him to come during his first term in office, pointing out that both former President George W. Bush and former President Barack Obama did so in their first terms. Mr. Trump joked that he didn't want to take Stefanik's call, but she persisted. McCain's office issued a statement from the senator applauding the bill and its signing by the president. The signing at the base just south of the Canadian border comes after Mr. Trump spent some of the day attacking former "The Apprentice" star and former top White House aide Omarosa Manigault-Newman, amid her claims that she has multiple recordings of West Wing conversations. Mr. Trump blasted her on Twitter as a "lowlife" and "not smart."
I don't get how veterans can support Trump when he is so blatantly disrespectful to any veteran who criticizes him. Whether or not Trump respects you has nothing to do with whether or not you served in the military, it's entirely to do with your fealty
Of all the ridiculous things Trump does and says, this seems to me the least worthy of a headline. An omission of a man's name that was only tangentially related to the content of the spending bill itself may be petty if intentional, sure. But the article also smacks of journalists digging for controversy where there may be none. Trump is a sociopathic, narcissistic monster. Media should focus on his myriad faults, crimes and atrocities, and cease exhausting the public with the irrelevant.
The latter grabs more attention and makes more money. And Trump has a history of shitting on McCain
To be honest I don't really care. The problem with this is not the name or lack of respect but the 17 year forever war that just seems unending.
It sucks but that's Trump. Good bill though.
The Senate usually votes around 90-10 on increasing the defense budget, Eisenhower warned but greed won in the end. Trading blood for money taken from poor people's tax.
the republican party is a cult
Can I just complain about how terrible the mainstream media frames stories and directs outrage? Yes, Trump is a colossal dick and he's been a colossal dick to John McCain, but I think the major point that this article isn't stressing enough is that we're spending $717 billion on our military when we're not even officially at war.
Also, the military is very loose with their spending, as is the grip on said money—it just tends to... slip right between their fingers and gets “lost” somewhere. I said it once, I’ve said it a million times, but why spend money on an already tremendously bloated military when we could invest in schools, or out crumbling infrastructure, or fix our fucked up healthcare. We’ve got decades old textbooks full of outdated information; busted, pothole filled roads; and if you go to the hospital, you go into debt.
Or invest in more oversight of military spending itself, and suddenly find you already have the money you want to invest into the military with this bill anyway.
No because if you point that out it automatically means you hate the military and everyone in it. I don't think any news outlet, regardless of political leaning would ever dare to raise the subject. You need to give them more money, how else can you prove to people that you #supportthetroops
the media should focus on his horrible policies, he'd have way less supporters if they did.
They do, and he doesn't.
Yeah at this point its hard to take any supporter of Trump or anyone who still supports the fucker seriously. Like how pathetic do you have to be to brush this shit under the rug?
Mainstream media focuses on the scandals and russiagate shit.
What about the family separations? Tax policy criticisms? Trade tariffs and fallout? If not from mainstream media, how did you hear of these in the first place?
They get drowned out by the coverage of this or two scoops of ice cream. Also since when is John McCain the good guy. He is a huge supporter of the massively bloated military budget and has blood on his hands for the countless lives killed in the middle east. He has never came out in support of universal healthcare. Trump will win in 2020 because everyone will be mocking him for piss tapes and silly hair.
Pretty easily. The VA is a giant clusterfuck.
See, here's the weird thing about the VA (and people who have used it): In my experience, when people argue against socialized medicine, they bring up the VA, acting like it's the worst fucking thing since canned bread, bring up how many people are neglected and die, etc. But once you point out that the VA needs more money than the defense contractors do, suddenly "Oh no it's working great! I go every time I need anything and I haven't had any problems!"
