So normally I hate love letter opinion pieces and I hate clickbaity titles even more, and to top it off, I'm not a fan of Polygon. BUT Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles fucking rules and I wanted an excuse to post a thread and gush about it. https://youtu.be/v5N6aZ0zFZM https://youtu.be/gkE5KQsK56k FFCC is absolutely one of my favorite fantasy settings. I only ever got to play the multiplayer once, or maybe twice, but it got wild. Spent most of my time exploring and enjoying the world in singleplayer. The combat was pretty shallow, and the grind to get the best equipment involved a fair bit of rng, but the feeling of travelling the world in a caravan far from home and seeing the wonders of the world was captured so well here. I still revisit FFCC once a year, and it's still just as charming as it was back then.
God I wish Crystal Chronicles had a remaster or port to the Switch, it's practically made for that console. Just make it so that you can use regular controllers and make it so that Mog carries the chalice around in multiplayer rather than forcing a player to carry it and you're good to go.
Crystal Chronicles is criminally underrated and it's a shame that none of the sequels were nearly as good. I still bust out the GBA to play it with friends when we get the chance, it's so unique and charming.
Crystal Chronicles had one of the jamminest soundtracks of my childhood. Just that fucking intro has stuck with me for years
I enjoyed the music too and I remember enjoying it as a kid but replaying it later made me realize it was a case of nostalgia. It was an okay game, combat was pretty basic and it was tedious to switch between attack, defend, magic, etc. Criminally underrated is a bit of an overstatement.
