My girlfriend is eager to play Rust. I want to ask for her when Rust is ready for sale for linux again?
Not in the foreseeable future, unfortunately. Try again in a few years maybe.
Is it possible to buy it and kinda hack it in via the steam command line?
It's my understanding that you can still buy Rust, install it on Linux and play it on Linux,
it's just not advertised (temporary) with the SteamOS icon.
Your results may vary: on my i5-4690K and gtx980 and 16gb of ram, with debian 8,
it crashes/freezes in between 5 and 20 minutes.
On the other side, many Linux users report having it stable 24/7
and I have many friends on Steam, Linux users, enjoying it in this very moment: it's stable / decently stable for them too.
No offense but I don't need this type of comments.
People who use Linux use it for specific reasons. Artists, Programmer, Designer etc.
I can understand if some people don't see the benefits but companies like Google for example do.
If there is any need for QA for the Linux department of Facepunch I'd be glad to help out.
